Personal Development<br />

Recommendation: Because personal development is essentially an internal<br />

<strong>and</strong> private process <strong>of</strong> change <strong>and</strong> growth, this course<br />

should be regarded from the perspective <strong>of</strong> the facilitation<br />

<strong>of</strong> the development <strong>of</strong> life skills, rather than the provision <strong>of</strong><br />

specific knowledge. The development <strong>of</strong> critical thinking<br />

processes cannot be measured quantitatively, nor can the<br />

ability to cope with stress. Hence, the following objectives<br />

belong more to the affective domain than to the cognitive,<br />

<strong>and</strong> achievement <strong>of</strong> those objectives may not be<br />

measurable in terms <strong>of</strong> concomitant change in behaviour.<br />

The focal point <strong>of</strong> this course lies in the raising <strong>of</strong><br />

consciousness, rather than in the measurability <strong>of</strong> the<br />

objectives.<br />
