Level III ABE Curriculum<br />

Welcome to Level III <strong>of</strong> the Adult Basic Education (ABE) <strong>Program</strong>! The ABE<br />

<strong>Program</strong> comprises provincial guidelines spanning all levels <strong>of</strong> Adult Basic<br />

Education, from literacy to high equivalency, in an attempt to provide consistent <strong>and</strong><br />

continuous educational upgrading to the adults <strong>of</strong> this province. This guide is one <strong>of</strong><br />

a series <strong>of</strong> three ABE <strong>Program</strong> <strong>Guide</strong>s prepared by contract for the Division <strong>of</strong><br />

Institutional <strong>and</strong> Industrial Education, <strong>Department</strong> <strong>of</strong> Education <strong>and</strong> Training,<br />

Government <strong>of</strong> Newfoundl<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> Labrador. This document focuses on Level III.<br />

Also available are program guides for Levels I <strong>and</strong> III, <strong>and</strong> two accompanying<br />

Instructor H<strong>and</strong>books, one for Level I <strong>and</strong> another for Levels II <strong>and</strong> III combined.<br />

Overview <strong>of</strong> this <strong>Guide</strong><br />

This program guide is divided into three distinct parts for ease <strong>of</strong> use <strong>and</strong> reference:<br />

L Part 1 introduces the program <strong>and</strong> presents the layout <strong>of</strong> the document.<br />

L Part 2 explains how to use this guide.<br />

L Part 3 states the learning objectives for students in Level III <strong>of</strong> the ABE<br />

<strong>Program</strong>, suggests useful references <strong>and</strong> resources to use in facilitating the<br />

attainment <strong>of</strong> those objectives, <strong>and</strong> briefly annotates the references supplied.<br />

Full information for ordering the texts is included in the annotated bibliography<br />

sections following each content area.<br />
