Physical Education<br />

Recommendation: This course is outlined minimally, since it should be<br />

<strong>of</strong>fered only by a person qualified to conduct physical<br />

education programs. The components may be varied<br />

depending upon the instructor's areas <strong>of</strong> expertise.<br />

1. Theory<br />

1.1 State purpose <strong>of</strong> a fitness class.<br />

1.2 Define cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance,<br />

<strong>and</strong> flexibility.<br />

1.3 Distinguish between aerobic <strong>and</strong> anaerobic exercise.<br />

1.4 Outline benefits <strong>of</strong> aerobic exercise, muscular strength, <strong>and</strong> endurance.<br />

1.5 Define steady state.<br />

1.6 Describe FITT principles (frequency, intensity, time, <strong>and</strong> type <strong>of</strong> exercise).<br />

1.7 Explain exercise precautions (warm-up, cool-down, dangerous exercises).<br />

1.8 Demonstrate first-aid for exercise-related injuries.<br />

1.9 Describe food groups necessary for a balanced diet.<br />

1.10 Describe factors influencing weight control.<br />

1.11 Evaluate own diet.<br />

2. Activity<br />

2.1 Observe correct techniques <strong>of</strong> exercise <strong>and</strong>/or sports.<br />

2.2 Participate in physical activity (aerobic exercise, sports, etc.).<br />
