STRUCTURING NEEDLES
The three-dimensionally rounded
fork area ensures that the fibres
are gently grasped and that, as a
result, the surface of the end
product is of a consistent,
regular quality. The optimum
straight ness prevents needle
breakage and bending, and
a long endurance of the
Groz-Beckert needle is attained.
Fork needles with a working
part diameter up to 42 gauge
and exceptionally small fork
dimensions are designed for
the production of very fine
random velour fabric.

Crown needle
The extreme dimensional
accuracy of the barbs and their
very close spacing ensure that
fibres are transported simultaneously
during the structuring
process. As a result of this
technical advance, a uniform
velour surface and a high
standard of product quality,
such as is particu larly required
for automotive interiors,
are obtained, using the
Groz-Beckert crown needle.
COMPACT BARB NEEDLES
With triangular
shape working part
Small barbs arranged in frequent
barb spacing achieve
outstanding punching results
with minimal effect on fibres
and base fabric. In addition to
needles with barbs on all three
edges, ver sions are available
with barbs on only one or two
edges. Application: Special
needling of papermaker and
filter felts.
TRIANGULAR TEAR DROP SHAPE
The standard working part
possesses a uniform triangular
cross-section with rounded
edges. When the needle is
deflected, this shape guarantees
uniformity of strength in
every direction.

working part
Compact barbs in combination
with the tear drop shaped work -
ing part permit utmost minimi sation
of scrim material da mage.
Needling efficiency is improved
by an optimised fibre transporting
angle in the under cut area of
the barb. Depending on the product
requirement, Groz-Beckert
needles with different crank orientations
can be used.
With only one barbed edge on
a working part of an otherwise
rounded cross-section, the
warp and weft systems of scrim
materials are protected to the
utmost extent while a high
needling performance still is
assured.

with the advantage of more
efficient fibre holding, due to
the concave sides of the triangle,
Groz-Beckert needles
with this cross-section offer a
more intensive needling effect.

with exterior angles of 60°.
The needling efficiency of geotextiles
and high compressed
felts is improved by barbs on

CROSS STAR ®
WORKING PART CROSS-SECTIONS
Cross STAR ®
GEBECON ® -SL needles and
GEBECON ® -XLP needles excel
by improved and increased
breaking properties compared
to conventional "conical"
needles, combined with good
elasticity. This economical
adaptation of a needle with an
intermediate reduced working
part meets the requirements
for a wide range of applications
with coarse and fine gauges.

GEBECON ® Vario barb needle
In this case, the barbs become
smaller towards the point.
As a result, penetration force
is re duced to advantageous
effect. The needle is de flected
to a lesser extent and the
risk of breaking is reduced
accord ingly. The larger barbs,
positio ned higher up, ensure
adequate needling efficiency.
Vario barb needles from
Groz-Beckert are mainly used
for needling every type of
natural and recycled fibre
material.

The conical working part
smoothly passes into the reduced
section or into the shank
area of the felting needle.
The long tapered point permits
that the nonwoven product is
penetrated with less resistance.
These advantageous design
features ensure exceptional
strength, even in the processing
of heavy weight materials and
the subjection of the needle to
high bending stresses.
STANDARD
CONICAL
GEBEDUR ® -NEEDLES
Conical needle GEBEDUR ®
GEBEDUR ® I needles are coated with titanium
nitride, resulting in exceptional surface
hardness and yet a sufficient degree
of flexibility. The ad vantageous character -
istics of this innovative idea lie in the
minimal wear and, in consequence, pro-
longed service life of the Groz-Beckert
needles.
The secret underlying GEBEDUR ® II nee dles
is their special metallurgical treatment
which also contributes to improved wear
characteristics. Additional versions are
chromium-plated and nickel-plated needles.

The use of wear resistant Groz-Beckert
GEBEDUR ® needles in continuous
industrial operation ensures consistent,
economical needle punching over
pro longed periods of time. In this way,
machine resetting times and costly
stoppages can be reduced to a minimum.
After a shorter running period, standard
needles exhibit marked traces of wear
caused by the fi bres. As a result, the
barb loses some of its shape, needling
becomes inconsistent and the product
properties change.

The traditionally cut barb is still in widespread
use for a variety of applications.
In many cases, moreover, it represents an
economical alternative to other types.

HL barb RF barb
This barb stands for most gentle fibre process
ing. The three-dimensionally rounded
shape is achieved by the use of precision
tools. The fibres adhere to the rounded
barb area and are gently needled as a
result.
The purpose of barbs is to transport fibres
through the web. The size of the barbs
is defined by the barb depth and kick-up,
and determines the fibre pick-up significantly.
The undercut angle defines how
well the fibre is retained by the barb.
The three-dimensional design of the HLand
RF-barbs increases the lifetime of
felting needles considerably in comparison
to needles that have conventional barb
shapes.
The accentuated base of the barb and
the round ing in the undercut area of this
efficiently shaped barb enable optimised
wear characteristics and a prolonged
endurance.
