Sensor
A device which detects and relays a status or a measured
quantity, e.g. sensors for distance measurement
(inductive, capacitive, photoelectric, ultrasonic, etc.).
Safety category (as defined in EN 954-1)
Classification of safety-related components with respect
to their resistance to error and behavior in case
of error, which is achieved based on the structural arrangement
of parts and/or their reliability.
Slave
Passive participant on the bus. It will only respond
when addressed. Slaves are identified by their addresses.
The factory setting for AS-Interface slaves is
address 0.
Message
A message sent by the master, or a message sent in
reply by a slave.
Transfer rate
Transfer speed of the bits on the bus line. Measured in
bit/s = Baud (Bd).
Cycle time
Period of time until an addressed slave is addressed
again. The cycle time is more significant than the
transfer rate. The fewer slaves there are, the shorter
the cycle time.
