11 AS-Interface Training Kit
The AS-Interface training kit imparts the basics of topics relevant to the
bus system, such as the master/slave principle, addressing topics, behavior
of the system with failing nodes, and so on. Of course, more in-depth AS-
Interface knowledge is also included.
The core of the training kit is an AS-Interface master with enhanced control
and PLC functionality (max. 16 kB command memory, with 8 kB registers,
1024 timers, and 1024 counters), with which control programs can be processed
over the AS-Intervace as a stand-alone.
Along with the AS-Interface training kit, the trainee has a set of equipment
available with which the functionality and possibilities of the AS-Interface
can be explored. The complete training kit includes a task collection comprising
some 50 tasks, which increase in difficulty as the user progresses.
It provides trainees with a step-by-step introduction to AS-Interface. For further
support of the training, about 45 overhead slides are included, covering
a range of topics. The commissioning software, along with the slides in
PowerPoint ® format on CD, are included in the training kit.

The AS-Interface training kit has been designed to be compatible with the
SENSORIK training package. This means that either the kit or the breadboard
can be used as work area. The sensors from the SENSORIK training
package are compatible with the 2EA module.
The training kit can be extended on request with gateways for connection
to higher-level systems. This provides an opportunity to drive the AS-Interface
and the SENSORIK training kits directly from a bus system. Gateways
for the PROFIBUS DP, InterBus, CANopen, DeviceNet, Modbus, and
other bus systems are available on request. Included in the training kit is a
professional commissioning software package including a converter. Using
the commissioning software and the converter, any gateway can be addressed
over the RS 232 interface of any PC. The gateways can also be
driven as slaves from the corresponding field bus systems.
For AS-Interface specification 2.1, there is a separate training kit. Using this
training packages AS-Interface per specification 2.1, the particular features
of the new AS-Interface geenration (for instance, A/B addressing, analogue
value transmission) can be learned.
