110 Children’s Meals Advice for families Travelling with your family may take a little extra planning than a non-family holiday. Below we have detailed some information on the facilities available for families and other useful information to allow you to make the most of your time away. Meals are provided according to the board basis of your accommodation. Breakfast - Is included and is taken with the parents. Lunch - We are able to supervise all children’s clubs over lunchtime (with the exception of those days where the club starts at 2.30pm), with the exception of Starfish, the under 2s. Lunch is included according to the board basis of your accommodation. Children’s Tea/Evening meal - Children’s tea is available at 5pm everyday, for all children under 5 years, this is supervised within the children’s club or you can attend with your child. We offer wholesome, healthy menus that will appeal to your children and count towards their 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day. In Vassiliki children’s meals are not included, if you would like your child to have supervised lunch within the clubs the cost is in the region of £20-£35 per week and is payable in resort using local currency. This money will also cover the purchase of snacks and drinks during the day. Children’s Clubs Operating Times Club operating times are for guidance only. Times vary according to each centre, local activities and weather conditions. Vassiliki - all clubs run from 9.30am - 5.30pm 6 days a week. Please note Starfish have a two hour unsupervised lunch break. Neilson Beachclubs - Hot Shots run from 9.30am - 5.30pm 6 days a week. All other clubs run from 9.30am - 5.30pm 4 days a week and 2.30pm -10.00pm 2 days a week (with a break after children’s tea to allow for showering and changing). Please note Starfish have a two hour unsupervised lunch break. Clubs are not available on transfer day. Evening Care and sleepclubs Neilson Beachclubs - Children’s clubs operate from 2.30pm to 10.00pm on two days, leaving you free to make the most of your non-inclusive evenings. This gives parents the freedom to explore the town and sample the local delights or simply enjoy the evening in the hotel restaurant, while children sleep soundly or enjoy the evening entertainment of our children’s clubs. Three nights a week (on inclusive meal nights), we offer a 3 hour evening session for all children aged 5-17 years. The evening sessions offer a variety of activities designed to keep your children occupied whilst you enjoy your evening meal at our restaurant. On the same evenings we offer a three-hour babysitting service in our sleep club for all children aged from 4 months - 5 years. We settle the children down for the evening following their individual bedtime routines in our well-equipped crèche complete with cots and sleeping mats. This service is available for £20 per evening; any siblings can be booked for an additional £10. Sleepclubs are subject to availability and bookable in resort. Beachclubs - We are able to offer a 2 hour evening session for all 5-12 year olds twice a week and a Sleepclub for thoses aged 4 months - 5 years for 3 hours on the same two nights. Baby Booster and Toddler Packs A Baby Booster Pack costs £30 per week and includes a kettle and microwave in your room, a bottle steriliser, a chair style baby bouncer and a changing mat. Baby wipes, disposable nappies, processed food and formula milk are all available to purchase locally, either at the hotel or from the nearest village. A toddler pack costs £15 per week and includes a kettle, microwave and changing mat in your room. Health Matters If your child falls ill during the holiday, you will be expected to take over care until there is no further risk of the illness spreading. Please note a doctor’s certificate may be required. Additional Needs We operate an equal opportunities and inclusion policy in all of our children’s clubs, we work together with you to cater to your child’s individual needs. Please assist us by informing our reservations team when booking of any additional requirements your child may
have. The more information you can provide us with the more certain we can be of catering to you and your child’s needs. Some children do not settle into our clubs, we will work with you to help them, however if they fail to do so we may ask you to remove the child to avoid causing them and other children distress. Supervison and Responsibility We will be responsible for your children whilst they are in our care, we will ensure that they are supervised at all times. We ask that you do the same whilst they are in your care. Remember: Children are safer when supervised. Please note: Due to best practice and health and safety reasons we do not offer in room babysitting. We do not promote the use of babylistening devices and children should be supervised at all times, never being left in rooms unsupervised. Our child protection policy is available on request. If your child is in one of our clubs we provide a sunhat and rash vest. In all of our properties we will supply cots and baby baths in your room, highchairs in the restaurant, pushchairs, nappy changing facilities and potties in the crèche. Deciding what to take on holiday and what to leave behind can be difficult, especially if you are new to Active holidays. After many tried and tested holidays overseas, we have put together a list of recommended items. Bag - Labelled with your child’s name Sun Cream - Factor 25+, spray and roll-ons are particularly good for babies and small children Swimsuit - With UV protection for younger children and babies Beach towel (these can be hired at our Beachplus clubs) T-shirt or rash vest Beach shoes Hat Sunglasses Those children attending children’s clubs receive a bag containing a rash vest and hat. Trainers or shoes with straps and closed toe Nappies and nappy sacks Aqua nappies Wet wipes Nappy cream Comforters/favourite toys Formula milk Bibs Bottles/Beakers Steriliser - If not renting a baby booster pack Pushchair with parasol Roll up/fold up changing mat Please note that although nappies, formula and wipes are available to purchase in most resorts, if your child is used to certain brands we would suggest that you bring your own. For hygiene reasons all children who are not toilet trained must use aqua nappies whilst in the swimming pool. Travelling Tips for Families If you are breastfeeding on a plane, try to time feeds to coincide with take-off or landing or both. It will help relieve the pain associated with ears ‘popping’. For older babies and toddlers, beakers of drink during take off and landing or cartons with straws are useful. It is also a good idea to take a few cartons of formula, and pre-sterilised bottles in case you have any delays getting to resort. Although you will receive a meal on the plane it is always a good idea to take a few snacks with you. Try to make sure children do not eat too much as it might make them feel sick when sat on a bus travelling to resort. Small plastic bags are excellent for storing any soggy left over snacks and for any wet items. If travelling with a baby or small child it’s worth packing an extra t-shirt in your hand luggage to cope with any accidents during the journey. On Flotilla The following are some proven ideas from other families and Neilson staff. As well as there being lifejackets for everyone we also have buoyancy aids that small children can wear all the time while on deck for added security. If with very small children, it can be a good idea to ask them to stay in the cockpit at all times whilst the boat is under sail. If the boat is leaning over then it can be a little harder to walk along the top decks. If moving around the outside of the yacht then please ask them to walk and not run, as there can be plenty of things to catch little toes on. The forepeak cabin is usually the smallest so is a good size for the children and as you generally anchor stern to each evening, it will be furthest away from the quayside. When parking the boat for the first couple of times it can be a good idea to have your children below deck whilst you master this under the watchful eye of your skipper. Give the children a job so they feel involved. We can equip our yachts with netting - this is a mesh net that attaches along both sides of the yacht, making it safer for them to move around the boat. Your flotilla mate will give your children lots of things to do during the day and usually encourages the children to meet up, with a few parents once you have parked up for the early evening in your new port of call. Once your confidence and that of your children increases then it’s great to get them involved in sailing the boat and taking part in the fun. 111
