esearch approaches <strong>in</strong>clude activities accord<strong>in</strong>g to Glass et al 255 ; <strong>in</strong><br />

such approaches an exist<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong>ory, process, or method are evaluated<br />

us<strong>in</strong>g an appropriate research method such as case and field studies,<br />

and this is achieved thorough <strong>the</strong> constructional stages mentioned<br />

above, and <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> evaluative approach that is conducted through<br />

summative and <strong>for</strong>mative analysis which is <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> evaluation stages.<br />

The data collection went through three stages accord<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>the</strong> nature <strong>of</strong><br />

research. In <strong>the</strong> first stage <strong>the</strong> aim is to collect prelim<strong>in</strong>ary <strong>in</strong><strong>for</strong>mation.<br />

The second stage aims to assess <strong>the</strong> construction <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>model</strong> and <strong>the</strong><br />

f<strong>in</strong>al stage is to get feedback and exploratory data, this procedure was<br />

repeated throughout <strong>the</strong> research cycle. In <strong>the</strong> course <strong>of</strong> all <strong>the</strong> stages<br />

<strong>the</strong>re have been a variety <strong>of</strong> methods <strong>for</strong> collect<strong>in</strong>g data, that <strong>in</strong>cluded<br />

observations, focus group, <strong>in</strong>terviews, audio and video record<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong><br />

events, still images and computer logs. The data collection methods will<br />

be explored fur<strong>the</strong>r <strong>in</strong> this chapter as each phase is described.<br />

5.5 Interviews/ Focus Groups<br />

Strauss and Corb<strong>in</strong> 256 state that one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> ma<strong>in</strong> purposes <strong>for</strong> engag<strong>in</strong>g<br />

<strong>in</strong> any type <strong>of</strong> <strong>in</strong>terview<strong>in</strong>g techniques is to obta<strong>in</strong> “immediate<br />

constructions” and “reconstructions” <strong>of</strong> persons, events, activities,<br />

organisations, feel<strong>in</strong>gs etc. In <strong>the</strong> course <strong>of</strong> this study, group <strong>in</strong>terviews<br />

as well as <strong>in</strong>dividual <strong>in</strong>terviews were conducted. Interviews with <strong>the</strong><br />

UAE University (UAEU) students, and unstructured <strong>in</strong>dividual <strong>in</strong>terviews<br />

with lecturers from UAEU and <strong>the</strong> American University <strong>of</strong> Sharjah<br />

(AUS), were carried out. Fur<strong>the</strong>r details about <strong>the</strong>se <strong>in</strong>terviews and <strong>the</strong><br />

f<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>gs, can be found <strong>in</strong> appendix C.<br />

In phase 3 <strong>in</strong>terviews with <strong>the</strong> participant <strong>of</strong> Cardiff Chimera were<br />

conducted to get an <strong>in</strong>-depth understand<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> students‟ reaction<br />

towards group work and creativity imposed to <strong>the</strong>m by <strong>the</strong> <strong>studio</strong> work.<br />
