Al-Qwasimi 225 has also conducted a study that aimed at limit<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> use<br />

<strong>of</strong> pen and paper <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>design</strong> <strong>studio</strong> and replac<strong>in</strong>g it with computers<br />

and CAD systems. This study took place <strong>in</strong> Al Petra University <strong>in</strong><br />

Jordan. All <strong>the</strong> studies encouraged fur<strong>the</strong>r research <strong>in</strong> this area as this<br />

area requires development <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Arab world. The studies also<br />

recommended curriculum modification as a ma<strong>in</strong> part <strong>for</strong> success when<br />

<strong>in</strong>tegrat<strong>in</strong>g new technology <strong>in</strong> <strong>design</strong> education.<br />

This work will <strong>in</strong>vestigate <strong>the</strong> best <strong>in</strong>ternational practice <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> use <strong>of</strong><br />

technology <strong>in</strong> <strong>design</strong> education and attempt to <strong>for</strong>mulate a <strong>framework</strong> <strong>for</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> UAE that could also benefit o<strong>the</strong>r Arabic countries tak<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>to<br />

consideration <strong>the</strong> pedagogical issues.<br />

3.11 Conclusion<br />

This chapter presented <strong>the</strong> needs analysis develop<strong>in</strong>g a <strong>framework</strong> that<br />

<strong>in</strong>tegrates technology to promote complex skills <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> UAE. The<br />

chapter briefly <strong>in</strong>troduced <strong>the</strong> impact <strong>of</strong> technology on architecture. The<br />

chapter fur<strong>the</strong>r outl<strong>in</strong>ed <strong>the</strong> development <strong>of</strong> architecture education <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Arab World <strong>in</strong> general, and <strong>the</strong> UAE specifically, with a great emphasis<br />

on <strong>the</strong> impact <strong>of</strong> technology <strong>in</strong> architecture education. The need <strong>for</strong><br />

architecture education development was exam<strong>in</strong>ed accord<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>the</strong><br />

literature, and <strong>the</strong> importance <strong>of</strong> <strong>in</strong>tegrat<strong>in</strong>g technology to improve<br />

<strong>design</strong> education practice was concluded. The chapter also outl<strong>in</strong>ed <strong>the</strong><br />

importance <strong>of</strong> complex skills (collaboration and creativity) <strong>for</strong> <strong>design</strong><br />
