Abu Shakra 220 argues that <strong>the</strong> use <strong>of</strong> technology <strong>in</strong> education <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Arab world cannot be generalised. Arab countries differ <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

availability <strong>of</strong> funds and resources. Some countries are more capable<br />

than o<strong>the</strong>rs <strong>in</strong> plac<strong>in</strong>g a computer <strong>in</strong> each classroom and provid<strong>in</strong>g<br />

<strong>in</strong>ternet access. Yet, even <strong>in</strong> countries with available resources,<br />

education systems are plagued with serious problems such as <strong>the</strong> lack<br />

<strong>of</strong> experienced staff or <strong>the</strong> lack <strong>of</strong> expertise <strong>in</strong> deploy<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> technology<br />

<strong>in</strong>to education. The lack <strong>of</strong> educationally and culturally proper<br />

educational programmes also corresponds to <strong>the</strong> Arab students needs.<br />

Accord<strong>in</strong>g to UNESCO <strong>the</strong>re is no evidence <strong>of</strong> educational programs<br />

that are aligned with arсhitесtural education curricula. This is considered<br />

ano<strong>the</strong>r serious deficiency <strong>in</strong> Arabic educational programmes, when<br />

consider<strong>in</strong>g us<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> Internet <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> arсhitесtural education<br />

classroom. 221<br />

This work will consider socio-cultural issues <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> UAE when <strong>in</strong>tegrat<strong>in</strong>g<br />

technology <strong>in</strong>to architecture education. S<strong>in</strong>ce <strong>the</strong> UAE shares similar<br />

culture and educational systems with o<strong>the</strong>r Arabic countries; this work<br />

could guide o<strong>the</strong>r studies <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> region. The study will <strong>for</strong>mulate a<br />

<strong>framework</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>in</strong>tegrat<strong>in</strong>g technology that promotes <strong>the</strong> necessary skill <strong>in</strong><br />

one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> UAE universities. As discussed <strong>in</strong> Chapter One, <strong>the</strong> work will<br />

<strong>in</strong>vestigate <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>ternational best practice <strong>in</strong> terms <strong>of</strong> <strong>design</strong> education,<br />

<strong>in</strong> an attempt to utilise <strong>the</strong> most advanced technology and to promote<br />

collaborative and creative environment to ensure maximum benefit.<br />

The tremendous change <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>design</strong> and <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>frastructure <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> UAE<br />

required <strong>the</strong> <strong>implementation</strong> <strong>of</strong> new technological tools to be used <strong>in</strong><br />

architecture <strong>design</strong>. This renovation <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>design</strong> practice has to be<br />

accompanied by a change <strong>in</strong> <strong>design</strong> education <strong>in</strong> terms <strong>of</strong> skill<br />
