<strong>in</strong> apartments close to <strong>the</strong> urban areas; whereas, citizens occupy<br />

suburban estates complete with villa and large areas <strong>of</strong> land.<br />

The rapid development <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>frastructure <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> UAE and <strong>the</strong> diversity<br />

<strong>of</strong> culture have enabled <strong>the</strong> UAE people to change to fit <strong>in</strong>to <strong>the</strong> new<br />

modern society.<br />

2.5 UAE Culture and H<strong>of</strong>stede’s Dimensions<br />

In general, <strong>in</strong>tegrat<strong>in</strong>g technology <strong>in</strong>to a new environment requires an<br />

understand<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> motivat<strong>in</strong>g factors that is believed to <strong>in</strong>fluence <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>in</strong>tegration policy. It also requires proper plann<strong>in</strong>g and decision mak<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

Hence, it is important to understand <strong>the</strong> socio-culture factors <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

society <strong>in</strong>to which technology will be <strong>in</strong>tegrated. This will help to make<br />

suitable decisions on <strong>the</strong> type and need <strong>of</strong> technology and <strong>the</strong> proper<br />

ways <strong>of</strong> conduct<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>tegration process. Accord<strong>in</strong>g to Punie et al 96 ,<br />

us<strong>in</strong>g technology <strong>in</strong> education has a great benefit if it is firmly grounded<br />

to <strong>the</strong> chang<strong>in</strong>g social realities. Punie et al state that <strong>the</strong> world is<br />

witness<strong>in</strong>g a transfer from <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>dustrial society <strong>in</strong>to knowledge based<br />

society. They fur<strong>the</strong>r argue that us<strong>in</strong>g technology is becom<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong><br />

accord<strong>in</strong>g to Punie et al is where <strong>the</strong> educational needs <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> learner<br />

will have priority. Moreover, Punie et al highlight <strong>the</strong> importance <strong>of</strong><br />

embedd<strong>in</strong>g technology accord<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>the</strong> social and cultural context <strong>in</strong><br />

order <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong>se technologies to be effective. This section classifies <strong>the</strong><br />

UAE culture accord<strong>in</strong>g to H<strong>of</strong>stede dimensions 97 <strong>in</strong> order to understand<br />

<strong>the</strong> socio-cultural factor and its <strong>in</strong>fluence <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> UAE society to make<br />

better decisions <strong>for</strong> technology <strong>in</strong>tegration. H<strong>of</strong>stede Dimensions have<br />

been known as <strong>the</strong> appropriate dimension to understand <strong>the</strong> culture <strong>of</strong> a<br />
