Allison Dutoit, Lecturer and First Year Chair, Welsh School <strong>of</strong> Architecture,<br />

Cardiff University<br />

Allison Dutoit holds a Masters Degree <strong>in</strong> Architecture from <strong>the</strong> University <strong>of</strong><br />

Cali<strong>for</strong>nia at Berkeley and studied with Lars Gemzoe <strong>in</strong> Copenhagen. She is an<br />

Architect and Senior Consultant at Gehl Architects <strong>in</strong> Copenhagen. Practic<strong>in</strong>g and<br />

teach<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> US, Denmark and <strong>the</strong> UK, she is also a Lecturer at <strong>the</strong> Welsh<br />

School <strong>of</strong> Architecture, Cardiff where she convenes <strong>the</strong> Master <strong>of</strong> Urban Design<br />

course. Dutoit is significantly <strong>in</strong>volved with public realm consultation work <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

UK and Europe.<br />

Her research <strong>in</strong>cludes Urban Design and <strong>the</strong> Public Realm, Scand<strong>in</strong>avian<br />

Architecture and Design, Draw<strong>in</strong>g and Representation, Foundation studies.<br />

Dutoit’s responsibilities <strong>in</strong>clude: <strong>the</strong> Chair-ship <strong>of</strong> First Year Studies B.Sc Program,<br />

Co Scheme Convener <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> MA Urban Design (With Marga Munar Bauza). She is<br />

also Module Leader <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> MA Urban Design <strong>studio</strong>, Urban Block and Public<br />

Space Design, and a contributor to BSc Architectural History and Architectural<br />

Technology courses and BSc and MArch <strong>design</strong> <strong>studio</strong>. Dutoit is a dissertation<br />

supervisor <strong>for</strong> MArch, MA Urban Design, Second year Design Studio (Spr<strong>in</strong>g<br />

2004) and World Architecture: determ<strong>in</strong>ants <strong>of</strong> <strong>for</strong>m Lecture course (Autumn<br />

2004) .<br />

Dutoit is Co-Editor (with Adam Sharr) <strong>of</strong> Made, <strong>the</strong> Journal <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Welsh School<br />

<strong>of</strong> Architecture. She was <strong>in</strong>vited Design Critic/Lecturer at <strong>the</strong> University <strong>of</strong><br />

Cali<strong>for</strong>nia Berkeley, Bath ACE, Cali<strong>for</strong>nia College <strong>of</strong> Arts (CCA), University <strong>of</strong><br />

Michigan, and DIS Copenhagen. She is <strong>the</strong> Chair <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Board <strong>of</strong> Studies and <strong>the</strong><br />

IT Strategy Group<br />

Margarita Bauza, Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Tutor, Welsh School <strong>of</strong> Architecture, Cardiff<br />

University<br />

Margarita takes teach<strong>in</strong>g as an experimentation and research process to achieve<br />

personal development <strong>for</strong> both herself and her students. Entail<strong>in</strong>g <strong>design</strong> and<br />

develop<strong>in</strong>g teach<strong>in</strong>g methods, she specifically tailors modules to achieve specific<br />

outcomes. In <strong>the</strong> MA UD <strong>the</strong> use <strong>of</strong> precedents has been <strong>in</strong>corporated as way <strong>of</strong><br />

learn<strong>in</strong>g, explor<strong>in</strong>g and <strong>design</strong><strong>in</strong>g - encourag<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> students to develop <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

own critical th<strong>in</strong>k<strong>in</strong>g and understand<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> specific issues and enabl<strong>in</strong>g a common<br />

plat<strong>for</strong>m <strong>for</strong> discussion among students from different cultures and backgrounds.<br />
