8.3 Assessment<br />

8.3.1 Rationale<br />

creativity through participatory <strong>design</strong><br />

methodology and technological <strong>design</strong> pedagogy.<br />

� Develop methods <strong>for</strong> apply<strong>in</strong>g 3D visualization,<br />

real-time <strong>in</strong>teractive graphics and animation <strong>for</strong><br />

<strong>design</strong> concept evaluation.<br />

� Acquire and learn new methods and approaches to<br />

<strong>design</strong> by th<strong>in</strong>k<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> a freer, less <strong>for</strong>mal way.<br />

� Use <strong>the</strong> <strong>studio</strong> as ei<strong>the</strong>r an <strong>in</strong>tegral part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

university <strong>design</strong> program or part <strong>of</strong> a research<br />

postgraduate stream<br />

The assessment philosophy <strong>of</strong> this <strong>studio</strong> places value on <strong>the</strong> collaborative aspect <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> <strong>studio</strong>, <strong>the</strong>re<strong>for</strong>e assessment will take place throughout <strong>the</strong> duration <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>studio</strong>,<br />

and students will be assessed on <strong>the</strong>ir level <strong>of</strong> participation. The f<strong>in</strong>al film <strong>in</strong>stallation<br />

will also be assessed.<br />

8.3.2 Assessment Methods<br />

Participants will be assessed <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> follow<strong>in</strong>g methods:<br />

� Cont<strong>in</strong>ual Assessment: Due to <strong>the</strong> nature <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>studio</strong>, <strong>the</strong> tutors will<br />

be responsible <strong>for</strong> cont<strong>in</strong>ually assess<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> students both onl<strong>in</strong>e and<br />

<strong>of</strong>f. Students will be assessed through critique, debate and discussion;<br />

verbal and visual presentations dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>studio</strong> time, and through <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

use <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Digital media provided, namely Facebook. Tutors will focus<br />

on status updates, and contribution to <strong>in</strong>dividual Facebook groups.<br />

Students will also be assessed on <strong>the</strong>ir contributions made to <strong>the</strong> daily<br />

discussion board and blog available on <strong>the</strong> VDS website and <strong>the</strong> VDS<br />

group on Facebook.<br />
