8.2 Outcomes<br />

The outcome <strong>for</strong> this <strong>virtual</strong> <strong>design</strong> <strong>studio</strong> is to juxtapose visions <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> future <strong>of</strong><br />

Sharjah. The participants are asked to re<strong>design</strong> <strong>the</strong> prov<strong>in</strong>ce l<strong>in</strong>k<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> old heritage <strong>of</strong><br />

Sharjah with <strong>the</strong> new cosmopolitan Sharjah, with <strong>the</strong> goal <strong>of</strong> produc<strong>in</strong>g orig<strong>in</strong>al,<br />

<strong>in</strong>novative <strong>design</strong> ideas.<br />

Via collaboration groups or <strong>in</strong>dividual work, <strong>the</strong> f<strong>in</strong>al <strong>design</strong> strategies must re<strong>design</strong> a<br />

segment <strong>of</strong> Sharjah <strong>in</strong> relation to its Islamic heritage and <strong>the</strong> issues it faces today. Each<br />

participant will be responsible <strong>for</strong> a 3 m<strong>in</strong>ute digital film version <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir strategy and<br />

<strong>the</strong> appropriate material to convey <strong>the</strong>ir <strong>design</strong> strategy. Project tutors will collect all<br />

material <strong>for</strong> a VDS Sharjah catalogue which will be compiled and published after <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>studio</strong>, and will <strong>in</strong>clude images <strong>of</strong> each <strong>design</strong> which will cover at least four pages<br />

with<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> collection <strong>of</strong> texts, photographs and CDs <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> VDS.<br />

Participants will:<br />

� Prepare <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>studio</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>for</strong>m <strong>of</strong> research i.e.<br />

read<strong>in</strong>g set texts, research<strong>in</strong>g historical orig<strong>in</strong>s <strong>of</strong><br />

Sharah and full pr<strong>of</strong>il<strong>in</strong>g on social network<strong>in</strong>g site<br />

Facebook, which will act as a key tool throughout<br />

<strong>the</strong> <strong>studio</strong>.<br />

� Embrace <strong>the</strong> <strong>virtual</strong> <strong>design</strong> processes, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong><br />

technological <strong>design</strong> applications and tools as a<br />

means <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> creation <strong>of</strong> collaborative <strong>in</strong>novative<br />

th<strong>in</strong>k<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

� Embrace social network<strong>in</strong>g website Facebook as a<br />

means <strong>of</strong> <strong>virtual</strong> communication, collaboration,<br />

personal expression and socialisation.<br />

� Facilitate <strong>the</strong> Virtual Design Environment as a<br />

means <strong>of</strong> communication and collaboration to<br />

develop and susta<strong>in</strong> a teamwork culture crucial to<br />

<strong>the</strong> Virtual <strong>design</strong> pedagogy <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>studio</strong>.<br />

� Develop <strong>virtual</strong> <strong>design</strong> pedagogical practices and<br />

<strong>model</strong>s which aid <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> promotion <strong>of</strong> collaborative<br />
