Chapter 6: VDS Framework Development<br />
6.1 Introduction<br />
This chapter presents <strong>the</strong> development <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Virtual Design Studio<br />
<strong>framework</strong>. In this research <strong>the</strong> development process went through<br />
three phases. The researcher developed and evaluated a VDS<br />
<strong>framework</strong> <strong>for</strong> each phase. In <strong>the</strong> third stage <strong>of</strong> each phase <strong>the</strong><br />
researcher evaluates <strong>the</strong> VDS <strong>framework</strong> developed <strong>for</strong> this phase. The<br />
research <strong>the</strong>n used <strong>the</strong> feedback ga<strong>in</strong>ed at <strong>the</strong> evaluation stage <strong>for</strong> each<br />
phase <strong>for</strong> improv<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> <strong>framework</strong> which <strong>the</strong>n leads to <strong>the</strong> next phase.<br />
The three phases respectively are: VDS 1, VDS2 and f<strong>in</strong>ally VDS 3. As<br />
expla<strong>in</strong>ed earlier <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> methodology chapter this study adopted an<br />
action research method. This chapter expla<strong>in</strong>s <strong>the</strong> development<br />
process through each phase <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> action research described earlier. It<br />
also presents <strong>the</strong> f<strong>in</strong>al Virtual Design Studio (VDS) and <strong>the</strong><br />
<strong>implementation</strong> process <strong>in</strong> addition to <strong>the</strong> technical and <strong>the</strong>oretical<br />
aspects beh<strong>in</strong>d its <strong>for</strong>mulation. This resulted <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> emergence <strong>of</strong> four<br />
layers. These layers will be described later <strong>in</strong> this chapter. The chapter<br />
outl<strong>in</strong>es <strong>the</strong> <strong>the</strong>oretical as well as <strong>the</strong> practical basis <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> VDS<br />
<strong>framework</strong>. The technical aspects <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> VDS and <strong>the</strong> <strong>the</strong>oretical and<br />
pedagogical aspects are all presented and detailed.<br />
6.2 The Development Process <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> VDS<br />
As expla<strong>in</strong>ed <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> previous chapter, <strong>the</strong> action research method adopts<br />
a spiral circle. This cyclic nature keeps on revolv<strong>in</strong>g around <strong>the</strong> topic <strong>of</strong><br />
study until a satisfactory result is achieved. This research adopts<br />
Lew<strong>in</strong>‟s 274 cycle <strong>of</strong> plan, observe, act and evaluate. The research starts<br />
by observ<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> subject <strong>of</strong> study and <strong>the</strong>n proceeds to act <strong>for</strong> improv<strong>in</strong>g<br />
<strong>the</strong> current situation and f<strong>in</strong>ally evaluate <strong>the</strong> proposed development and<br />
get <strong>the</strong> feedback and f<strong>in</strong>ally use it <strong>for</strong> improv<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> proposal. This leads<br />
