Students are expected to embrace all aspects <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>virtual</strong> <strong>design</strong><br />

process <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g prolonged and extended use <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> VDS technology <strong>in</strong><br />

order to achieve <strong>the</strong> best possible results through <strong>in</strong>tensive<br />

collaboration.<br />

Students are required to prepare <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>studio</strong> through a means <strong>of</strong> set<br />

texts and tasks given prior to <strong>the</strong> actual <strong>studio</strong> <strong>in</strong> order to familiarise<br />

<strong>the</strong>mselves with <strong>the</strong> philosophy and expectations <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> project.<br />

Students must beg<strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>studio</strong> with a clear idea <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir own<br />

philosophical and political beliefs which will be encouraged by <strong>the</strong> tutors<br />

and built upon throughout <strong>the</strong> course <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>studio</strong>.<br />

The assessment philosophy <strong>of</strong> this <strong>studio</strong> places value on <strong>the</strong><br />

collaborative aspect <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>studio</strong>; <strong>the</strong>re<strong>for</strong>e assessment will take place<br />

throughout <strong>the</strong> duration <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>studio</strong>, and students will be assessed on<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir level <strong>of</strong> participation. The f<strong>in</strong>al film <strong>in</strong>stallation will also be<br />

assessed.<br />

Participants will be assessed <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> follow<strong>in</strong>g methods:<br />

Cont<strong>in</strong>ual Assessment: Due to <strong>the</strong> nature <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>studio</strong>, <strong>the</strong> tutors will be<br />

responsible <strong>for</strong> cont<strong>in</strong>ually assess<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> students both onl<strong>in</strong>e and <strong>of</strong>f.<br />

Students will be assessed through critique, debate, and discussion;<br />

verbal and visual presentations dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>studio</strong> time; and through <strong>the</strong>ir use<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Digital media provided, namely Facebook. Tutors will focus on<br />

status updates, and contribution to <strong>in</strong>dividual Facebook groups.<br />

Students will also be assessed on <strong>the</strong>ir contributions made to <strong>the</strong> daily<br />

discussion board and blog available on <strong>the</strong> VDS website and <strong>the</strong> VDS<br />

group on Facebook.<br />

Self-Assessment: Students will also be subject to self-assessment which<br />

will be provided <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>for</strong>m <strong>of</strong> a questionnaire, found <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> open<br />

learn<strong>in</strong>g work-book.<br />
