In <strong>the</strong> field work, <strong>the</strong> researcher also utilised both techniques described<br />

above to get <strong>in</strong>-depth perceptive <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> students‟ <strong>in</strong>teraction and<br />

acceptance <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> VDS <strong>framework</strong>.<br />

5.17 The Curriculum<br />

This section briefly <strong>in</strong>troduces <strong>the</strong> curriculum developed <strong>of</strong> this study to<br />

work as a cornerstone <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>model</strong> proposed <strong>for</strong> <strong>in</strong>tegrat<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong><br />

technology <strong>in</strong>to <strong>design</strong> education <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> UAE.<br />

The Virtual Design Studio workshop aims to educate future <strong>design</strong>ers<br />

through <strong>the</strong> use <strong>of</strong> computer supported collaborative <strong>design</strong><br />

environments, us<strong>in</strong>g both synchronised and unsynchronised digital<br />

technology.<br />

The <strong>studio</strong> <strong>in</strong>tends to channel and develop students‟ exist<strong>in</strong>g<br />

philosophical beliefs as a basis <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir <strong>design</strong> strategies.<br />

Ultimately, <strong>the</strong> <strong>studio</strong> endeavours to provide <strong>in</strong>novative creative learn<strong>in</strong>g<br />

methods and push exist<strong>in</strong>g cultural boundaries to encourage<br />

collaboration between both male and female students <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> pursuit <strong>of</strong><br />

develop<strong>in</strong>g orig<strong>in</strong>al <strong>design</strong> strategies <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> architectural future <strong>of</strong><br />

Sharjah.<br />

Students are expected to obta<strong>in</strong> a coherent and systematic body <strong>of</strong><br />

knowledge facilitat<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> multi-technological tools and applications<br />

available.<br />
