Lynn R. Johnson, ’70,<br />

Mission Hills, Kan., was<br />

ho<strong>no</strong>red as the recipient <strong>of</strong><br />

the 2010 law school’s Alumni<br />

Fellow on Oct. 22. Johnson<br />

is principal shareholder and<br />

president <strong>of</strong> Shamberg,<br />

Johnson & Bergman Chtd.,<br />

Kansas City, Mo. He joined the<br />

Kansas City, Kan., law fi rm <strong>of</strong> Schnider, Shamberg<br />

& May immediately after graduation. The focus <strong>of</strong><br />

his practice is representing plaintiffs’ signifi cant and<br />

complicated personal injury and wrongful death<br />

litigation. Johnson represents plaintiffs in many states,<br />

but primarily practices in Kansas and Missouri.<br />

As a student at <strong>Washburn</strong>, Johnson was a <strong>Law</strong> Journal<br />

editor, served on the executive council <strong>of</strong> <strong>Washburn</strong><br />

Student Bar Association, was a delegate to the<br />

American Bar Association, and treasurer and marshal<br />

<strong>of</strong> Phi Alpha Delta legal fraternity.<br />

Johnson is a life member <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Washburn</strong> <strong>University</strong><br />

<strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Law</strong> Alumni Association. He has served<br />

as president, president-elect, and vice president <strong>of</strong><br />

the board <strong>of</strong> gover<strong>no</strong>rs, and was ho<strong>no</strong>red with the<br />

<strong>Washburn</strong> <strong>Law</strong> Distinguished Service Award in<br />

2001. He served from 1991 to 1999 as a trustee <strong>of</strong><br />

the <strong>Washburn</strong> <strong>University</strong> Foundation. With his wife,<br />

Jacqueline Lovelace Johnson, he is a member <strong>of</strong><br />

the Lincoln Society. Since 2006, Johnson has been a<br />

member <strong>of</strong> the board <strong>of</strong> advisors for the Center for<br />

Excellence in Advocacy. He established the Lynn R.<br />

Johnson Endowment Fund at <strong>Washburn</strong> <strong>Law</strong> in 1995.<br />

Johnson is serving as chairman <strong>of</strong> the Kansas<br />

Association for Justice Foundation. For the past 25<br />

years, he has been named to Best <strong><strong>Law</strong>yer</strong>s in America<br />

and is listed in Missouri and Kansas Super <strong><strong>Law</strong>yer</strong>s.<br />

Kansas Court <strong>of</strong> Appeals Judge Thomas E. Malone, ’79, and<br />

Tim Belsan, ’09, attended the Mentor-Mentee reception.<br />

The Ho<strong>no</strong>rable Thomas E. Malone, ’79, Topeka, and<br />

Tim M. Belsan, ’09, <strong>Law</strong>rence, Kan., joined more<br />

than 90 alumni and students at the 8th annual Mentor-<br />

Mentee reception on Sept. 30 at the Bradbury Thompson<br />

Alumni Center. Judge Malone was Belsan’s mentor while<br />

Belsan was in law school. Malone serves as a judge for<br />

the Kansas Court <strong>of</strong> Appeals. Belsan, who is a law clerk<br />

for the U.S. 10th Circuit Court <strong>of</strong> Appeals, returned to<br />

this event as a mentor to a fi rst-year law student.<br />

Overall this year, 97 area lawyers volunteered to be paired<br />

with fi rst-year law students. For more information about<br />
