However, for teens who are 12th graders this Fall, they may already be thinking about and dreading college applications. With the college application evolving into a complex package, many teens tend to procrastinate. It is important for parents to talk with their teens, and help them get ready for the college application. Parents’ support during this stressful time is extremely valuable. Here are some tips for parents to help their teens. 1. Review Your Teen’s Progress Many colleges, such as the UC and CSU campuses, recalculate the GPA based on 10th and 11th grades in A-G classes only. This UC/CSU GPA is typically higher than the GPA you see on report cards. Also, review your teen’s SAT or ACT results. 2. Make a list It is a good idea to make a list of at least 10 colleges, and then after researching, decide which ones to apply to. 3. Research Parents and teens can go to www.collegeboard.org to re- www.templecitychamber.org Now is time for parents, juniors to plan for college applications The First United Methodist Church of Temple City offers the following opportunities for worship and fellowship in July. On July 3, the community is invited to join the First and Faith congregations for Sunday Morning Worship at 10 a.m. at the Temple City Park, next to the library. Lunch to follow. On July 10 through Sept. 4 Summer worship services will be at 9:30 a.m. For the month of August, the worship services will be celebrated in the Fireside Room instead of the Sanctuary. Whether a long-time resident or new to the community or just looking for a place to worship during the summer months, please feel invited. On Sept. 11, a Rally Sunday Worship Service will take place from 10 a.m. - 11 a.m. with a barbecue lunch from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. The Rev. David Palmer and the congregation of First United search colleges, and see accepted students’ average GPA and test scores. 4. Get Organized Make a timeline with important deadlines. For example, SAT or ACT test dates and college application deadlines, like November 30th for UC or CSU campuses. 5. Start Writing Now The personal statement is a challenging essay. It is important to get started early. The UC personal statement and the Common Application personal statement prompts are currently available online, so students can start now. Phone 626- LEARN-90 or visit the Web site at www.platinumacademy.com TCHS Class of 1966 reunion will be Oct. 22 The 45th reunion for the Temple City High School Class of 1966 is set for Saturday, Oct. 22, at the Embassy Suites in Arcadia. Tentative plans call for a 6 p.m. gathering with hors d’oeuvres and drinks from the no-host bar as everyone gets reacquainted. The evening will include lots of chitchat, laughter and hugs. Dinner, dancing and more fun to follow. To make things more convenient for all, the class will be using the TCHS Alumni News site for the RSVPs, updates, payments, pictures and a way for everyone to get back in touch. The Web address is http://tchsalumni.org/. It is free to join so even those not able to attend the reunion may log on and register to check out the festivities and reach out to good friends. Once logged in members may click on Events near the upper right-hand corner, then choose Class of ’66 Reunion — the only one listed at the moment. It’s very new so there’s not much posted yet but it will grow as the time draws closer. Reunion planners have not set the final price for the night as yet but are doing all they can to keep the cost down and will announce the final amount as soon as possible. Of course, more people signing up early will result in lower fees. For those wishing to spend a night or two, there will be special group rates at the Embassy Suites with hopes of setting up a breakfast for Sunday morning. Class member Lani is looking into a combo or band for us and we need to find a reasonable photographer who will take both posed and candid shots that we can post on our site. Volunteers are needed to join the committee to handle decorations, picture name badges, light background music until the band starts, assistance at the sign-in table and whatever needs to be done to make the reunion memorable. Help is also needed from everyone by helping to find classmates. Those who have an e-mail address for someone from the class should forward it to contacts on the Web site. Everyone should do some searching to find more lost Rams & Rammettes. No one should be left out. First United Methodist announces summer activities Methodist Church of Temple City extend an open invitation to the community to join in a new year of Christian fellowship and worship. Children of all ages are welcome. In June, July and August, the Pasadena District United Methodist Summer Camp is open for elementary, junior high and senior high students. The health care business is a member of the Temple City Chamber of Commerce. It has contributed to several organizations including the West San Gabriel Valley YMCA, Asian Youth Center, the Boy Scouts, the Go For Broke Japanese/American Veterans Foundation, and the Alhambra Rotary Club. Yonemoto Physical Therapy has offered free ACL injury prevention, free summer matinees for children, community wellness talks, free health seminars, and Qigong exercise classes to improve community health. Furthermore, the Yonemotos are involved in the business community as members of the California Physical Therapy Association, the Los Angeles Physical Therapy Association, and the Alhambra Chamber of Commerce.
