Foreword<br />

<strong>What</strong> does <strong>Bosch</strong> <strong>stand</strong> <strong>for</strong>? <strong>What</strong> is our <strong>common</strong> vision?<br />

<strong>What</strong> guides our work, and how do <strong>we</strong> deal with change?<br />

<strong>What</strong> are our values and core competencies?<br />

Dear associates,<br />

<strong>for</strong> the past 120 years, the <strong>Bosch</strong> Group has been successful with<br />

pioneer<strong>in</strong>g and beneficial <strong>in</strong>novations that <strong>have</strong> led to enormo<strong>us</strong><br />

growth. Today, the <strong>Bosch</strong> Group has a global network of c<strong>us</strong>tomers<br />

and suppliers. Our never-end<strong>in</strong>g task is to ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong> and further expand<br />

this position. For this <strong>we</strong> need a <strong>common</strong> vision, yet the more <strong>in</strong>ternational<br />

<strong>we</strong> become, the less <strong>we</strong> can assume that associates will automatically<br />

live the values and pr<strong>in</strong>ciples that <strong>have</strong> been handed down<br />

to <strong>us</strong>. Besides our commitment to other significant <strong>in</strong>itiatives, it is our<br />

dist<strong>in</strong>ct corporate culture, based on <strong>common</strong> foundations, that is an<br />

especially important precondition <strong>for</strong> b<strong>us</strong><strong>in</strong>ess success and our ability<br />

to cont<strong>in</strong>ue to evolve <strong>in</strong> the <strong>in</strong>ternational market environment.<br />

The future needs a past<br />

Robert <strong>Bosch</strong> gave the company its name and created values that still<br />

apply today. For him success did not j<strong>us</strong>t mean economic growth; it<br />

also encompassed improvement <strong>in</strong> liv<strong>in</strong>g conditions. Today <strong>we</strong> <strong>in</strong>corporate<br />

this <strong>stand</strong>ard <strong>in</strong> our claim “Invented <strong>for</strong> life.” And the pr<strong>in</strong>ciples<br />

and guidel<strong>in</strong>es <strong>for</strong>mulated by Robert <strong>Bosch</strong> still apply today, j<strong>us</strong>t as<br />

they will <strong>in</strong> the future. The future needs a past. Our company <strong>stand</strong>s<br />

<strong>for</strong> tradition and modernity, and these two pillars are the source of<br />

our strength <strong>for</strong> the course ahead. Ho<strong>we</strong>ver, motivation and shar<strong>in</strong>g<br />

of <strong>common</strong> goals depend on an <strong>in</strong><strong>for</strong>med work<strong>for</strong>ce that is prepared to<br />

assume personal responsibility. To create a shared view of <strong>what</strong> a<br />

strong and mean<strong>in</strong>gful development of the <strong>Bosch</strong> Group means,<br />

<strong>we</strong> <strong>have</strong> prepared this brochure, “Ho<strong>us</strong>e of Orientation.” That is<br />

beca<strong>us</strong>e our <strong>common</strong> goal m<strong>us</strong>t be to make the most of our great<br />

per<strong>for</strong>mance potential across all b<strong>us</strong><strong>in</strong>ess sectors and <strong>in</strong> every<br />

region of the world, and <strong>in</strong> this way to vigoro<strong>us</strong>ly promote the longterm<br />

competitiveness of <strong>Bosch</strong>.<br />

Under<strong>stand</strong><strong>in</strong>g and liv<strong>in</strong>g the corporate culture<br />

“Ho<strong>us</strong>e of Orientation” sets out how <strong>we</strong> see our future development,<br />

the pr<strong>in</strong>ciples of our approach, and the capabilities that <strong>we</strong> <strong>have</strong> and<br />

want to exploit <strong>for</strong> our cont<strong>in</strong>ued success <strong>in</strong> the future. It also conta<strong>in</strong>s<br />

<strong>in</strong><strong>for</strong>mation on the <strong>stand</strong>ards and values that motivate <strong>us</strong> <strong>in</strong> our daily<br />

striv<strong>in</strong>g <strong>for</strong> success and improvement. “Ho<strong>us</strong>e of Orientation” will help<br />

all associates to under<strong>stand</strong> and live our corporate culture – a culture<br />

that offers orientation, re<strong>in</strong><strong>for</strong>ces cohesiveness, and creates identification.<br />

With best regards,<br />
