Optical systems
Lighting tools specifically designed
for their respective application
areas are the key for fascinating
lighting concepts in architecture.
ERCO designs and builds optical
elements that efficiently and precisely
shape the light of both LEDs
and conventional light sources,
making that light predictable and
usable.
Collimators and
Spherolit lenses
The collimator,
as a secondary
lens, is the interface
between
the LED lens on
the printed circuit
board and
the exchangeable
Spherolit lenses
acting as the
tertiary optical
system. After
Optical test
New technologies
require innovative
production,
assembly and
quality assurance.
ERCO has a range
of rapid tests
for all LED spotlights
to ensure
functionality and
quality of the
individual LEDs
using digital
image processing.
beam through
the collimator, it
is the Spherolit
lens that determines
the light
distribution.
ERCO lens system
In certain applications,
for example
in the case
of downlights
for ambient
lighting, flexibility
of the distribution
options
is not required.
Here, a one-piece
lens system, as
found in the new
Compact LED
downlight, is a
much more efficient
alternative.
The complex form
of the lens system
made of optical
polymer directs
the light precisely
and without loss.
The rise of LED technology currently
being seen in the field of
architectural lighting represents
the greatest evolution in lighting
technology for decades. Designers
and users of lighting systems
expect new answers from manufacturers
in order to enable the
potential of LED technology to be
achieved. Optoelectronics is a new
field in which elements of optical
systems overlap with electronics
and information technology, i.e.
software. As once before in lighting
technology, ERCO now sees a
core capability and a focus of its
development work as being in the
field of optoelectronics. The slogan
“tune the light” brings together
ERCO’s capabilities in producing,
directing and controlling light.
LED optical
systems
Optical systems
for LEDs differ
significantly
from conventional
lumi naires.
ERCO develops
and produces
these lens systems
itself to
ensure optimal
results.

ERCO Innovations 2013 Optoelectronics
Electronics
LEDs, the light sources of the
future, are themselves electronic
components and, as with current
conventional lamp types,
require electronics in the form of
control gear. The development of
electronic modules in-house gives
ERCO freedom in designing the
form and function of innovative
lighting tools.
Information technology
The networking of information
technology at a software level
combines individual luminaires
into an intelligent lighting network.
It was only the hardware
and software of a digital lighting
control installation such as Light
System DALI that has made it possible
to fully unlock the energysaving
potential of LED technology.
And it was only with their
depiction as a control element in
the Light Studio software that the
development of multifunctional
luminaires was made complete.
Light Studio
The user- friendly
Light Studio PC
software is an
integral part of
the Light System
DALI lighting control.
It enables
an easy configuration
of Light
System DALI
installations and
the interactive
creation of light
LED modules
By developing its
own PCB layouts,
fitted with carefully
selected LED
binnings, ERCO
guarantees an
optimum of luminous
flux and
colour rendering
for any lighting
task.
Lighting control
LEDs and digital
lighting control
for each other.
No other lamp
Heat management
Constructional
ERCO Innovations 2013 LED recessed luminaires with control gear
Combining LED recessed luminaires
on-site with control gear
from other suppliers creates
unnecessary complexity and risk.
Incorrect operating parameters
impair performance and reduce
the life of the LEDs through overheating,
possibly even causing
total failure. Potential electromagnetic
interference in the surroundings
may also affect other
electronic devices such as computers,
mobile phones or medical
equipment, but equally building
equipment such as lift controls.
ERCO’s recessed luminaires
with LEDs are always provided
as a unit, with matched, pre-
connected control gear. This package
of luminaire and control gear,
familiar to users of luminaires
with DALI control gear, has many
advantages. The control gear is
precisely matched to the relevant
LED module to ensure maximum
life of the LED with high luminous
power. The luminaires are tested
by ERCO together with the control
gear so the user is provided
with a combination that ensures
ideal operation and safety. It also
guarantees, in particular, compliance
with EMC (electromagnetic
compatibility) requirements. The
outer dimensions of the control
gear and the length of the cable
are designed to facilitate installation
in the appropriate ceiling
aperture.
Control gear versions
The luminaire/control gear units
with LED are often available in
three versions: switchable, dimmable
through trailing edge
technology, or DALI-controlled.
ERCO Innovations 2013 Indoor luminaires with LED
Compact LED
Developed and produced inhouse
by ERCO, the lens system of the
Compact LED produces a particularly
efficient and uniform distribution
– with rotationally symmetrical
wide flood or axially
symmetrical oval flood characteristic.
The luminaire’s photometrics
have been optimised in terms of
efficient visual comfort by using
an antiglare ring and cross baffle
and offer a cutoff angle of 30°.
This combination of efficient visual
comfort, striking design, especially
shallow recess depth and good
value for money makes Compact
LED a truly unique luminaire. The
Compact LED is an ideal lighting
tool for ambient lighting in retail
or in administrative buildings,
where effective solutions and brilliance
are required for the illumination
of merchandise, objects and
materials.
Page 565
Quadra
The Quadra range also uses the
innovative and highly efficient LED
lens projection system. Quadra,
therefore, excels with photometric
performance in the same way as
the new Compact LED. The usage
of a square cover glass offers a
clear and elegant design. As with
Compact LED, Quadra uses the
same mounting frames and rings
as the Quintessence range for
practical installation without tools.
Accordingly, both the Quadra and
the Compact LED are available in
three and five sizes respectively,
with covered or flush mounting
detail. The wide flood characteristic
can be used to illuminate
expansive areas, providing ambient
lighting in areas such as foyers,
restaurants, hotels and residential
properties, whereas the
oval flood ensures linear lighting
with generous luminaire spacing
in traffic zones, for example, or on
retail surfaces.
Logotec with LED in two sizes
The Logotec range of spotlights
excels in terms of efficient lighting
technology, a sturdy design
and excellent userfriendliness.
The additional larger size supports
deployment in different applications
thanks to the increased
lumen packages. The innovative
Spherolit technology has resulted
in highly uniform light beams with
a slightly soft edge and a high
light output ratio. The Logotec
system concept is particularly
optimised for the requirements
of sales area lighting and is a
costefficient option for effective
planning and design. The modular
Spherolit technology allows
toolfree exchange of the lenses,
offering different characteristics
suiting various lighting
tasks. Logotec is also available as
recessed spotlight for lighting
solutions that are integrated into
the ceiling.
Pollux spotlights with LED
The Pollux product range addresses
a wide selection of lighting tasks
running the gamut from accentuation
through to light effects
produced by projections. With
this in mind, ERCO has now added
projector spotlights with LED to
the range. Their framing attachment
produces sharpedged beams
that can be individually adjusted,
for instance, to suit the format of
images. The highly compact LED
light head made of cast aluminium
makes Pollux perfect even for small
Optec spotlights with LED
The spotlights, floodlights and
wallwashers with LED in the successful
Optec range of spotlights
have advanced to the next generation.
Reflecting every aspect of
ERCO’s leadership in optoelectronics,
its focal point is a light head
that has been optimised for use
with LEDs. Available in three sizes,
it provides a choice of different
wattages with the added bonus of
higher luminous flux despite more
compact dimensions. Naturally, it
comes with the full range of light
distribution patterns produced by
ERCO’s Spherolit lens technology,
from narrow spot through to wide
flood and oval flood to wallwash.
As a special feature, ERCO has
added a projector spotlight with
LEDs to the range. All control gear
units developed by ERCO are suitable
for trailingedge dimming –
this makes the Optec LED spotlight
ideal for upgrading correspondingly
dimmed old installations to
cuttingedge LED technology.
Quintessence double-focus
downlights with LED for
inclined ceilings
Consistent system design is a
characteristic feature of the
Quintessence recessed luminaires.
Perfect combination of the lamp,
lens and control gear results in
maximum efficiency. The highquality
lighting technology and
the antiglare ring are based on
the principles of efficient visual
comfort. Certain architectural
situations such as inclined ceilings
require special lighting solutions
to ensure a similar light
quality to horizontal ceilings, with
comparable visual comfort. The
tiltable and rotatable luminaire
suspensions allow the beam of
doublefocus downlights to be
directed downwards at a vertical
angle – irrespective of the ceiling
incline.
ERCO Innovations 2013 Indoor luminaires with LED
Quintessence LED directional
luminaires with narrow spot
characteristic
Consistent system design is a
characteristic feature of the
Quintessence range of recessed
luminaires. Perfect combination
of the lamp, lens and control gear
results in maximum efficiency.
The highquality photometrics
with Darklight reflectors are based
on the principles of efficient visual
comfort. The comprehensive
system has now been extended by
adding LED directional luminaires
with narrow spot characteristic
to the range. Based on Spherolit
lens technology, their narrow light
distribution produces a highly precise
and very uniform beam for
accent lighting used, for example,
to illuminate objects from a large
height. The antiglare cone as
Darklight reflector ensures exceptional
visual comfort.
Trion ceiling washlights
with LED
The archetypal design of Trion
has been devised to ensure
unobtrusive integration of the
wallmounted luminaire into
architectural interiors for ceiling
lighting; it has stood the test in
many applications. New to the
range are versions with effective
LED technology – available in two
sizes with appropriately adjusted
luminous flux and with either
wide or deep beam characteristic.
Restricted to the precise area of
the ceiling surface to be illuminated,
the beam is delivered effectively
by appropriate Spherolit
lenses. A further advantage here
is the absence of spill light at the
mounting surface on the wall.
Trion ceiling washlights with LED
are also available in varychrome
RGBW technology for infinitely
variable colour temperature and
scenic lighting effects with saturated
colours.
Parscoop with LED
The Parscoop range is primarily
intended for outdoor architectural
lighting, but is also suitable for
indoor areas. The photometrics
of the new Parscoop wallwashers/
ceiling washlights with LED are
characterised by efficiency and
a highly uniform brightness distribution
enabling optimum
luminaire spacing. The Spherolit
lenses with wide or deep beam
options permit adjustment
of the light distribution to suit
the relevant lighting task. Other
characteristic features of the
Parscoop wallwashers/ceiling
washlights with LED include the
absence of spill light, especially
at the mounting surface, and
excellent glare control for good
visual comfort.
Compact LED recessed
luminaires
As its indoor counterpart, the
Compact LED for outdoor applications
also features a lens system
that produces a particularly
efficient and uniform distribution
with wide flood and oval flood
characteristics. The luminaire’s
photometrics have been optimised
in terms of efficient visual
comfort by using an antiglare
ring and cross baffle and offer a
cutoff angle of 30°. This combination
of efficient visual comfort,
striking design, compact format
and robust housing makes
Compact LED a truly unique
luminaire. The Compact LED is an
ideal lighting tool for economic
ambient lighting in entrance
zones and roofed outdoor areas
such as arcades, passages or atriums.
