class size is 80, with most being much<br />

smaller. If you take cookery there’ll only be<br />

Airport Pick-up Service<br />

WelTec offers a free airport pick-up<br />

service from Wellington airport to your<br />

Orientation<br />

At the start of each trimester there is an<br />

orientation programme for new international<br />

students. Attendance at this programme is<br />

compulsory and it is an excellent opportunity<br />

to meet other students and make new<br />

friends on your arrival in New Zealand.<br />

The Personal education Plan (PeP) is<br />

a key part of the enrolment process at<br />

WelTec. All students coming to WelTec<br />

can take advantage of this free service.<br />

PeP provides targeted support, including;<br />

styles, study goals, numeracy and literacy<br />

levels and strategies for success.<br />

Accommodation<br />

WelTec can assist you by placing you<br />

in the right accommodation to suit your<br />

needs. Wellington is a compact city<br />

and 10km separate the Petone and city<br />

campuses so it is important to plan your<br />

desired living situation. You can choose to<br />

live with other students, by yourself or with<br />

Zealand families who wish to welcome<br />

international students into their home life.<br />

A homestay is a great way to experience<br />

the New Zealand lifestyle, make friends<br />

and to practice your english. You will have<br />

your own room and all meals are provided.<br />

For many international parents this is<br />

an ideal option for their children. We will<br />

ensure that we introduce you to a family<br />

that is right for you.<br />

cost: Ranges from NZ$230 – NZ$250 per<br />

week. The minimum stay is four weeks.<br />

On-campus<br />

accommodation<br />

The Britannia Park student complex is a<br />

three-minute walk from the WelTec Petone<br />

campus. Students have the option of either<br />

a twin-share room or a single room for<br />

themselves in shared apartment blocks.<br />

proximity to campus and for making<br />

Working in the capital city of New Zealand<br />

If you are studying for a level 5 Diploma or higher you will normally be permitted<br />

to work while you study. This will generally allow you to work for up to 20 hours<br />

is a great way to gain valuable work experience, meet local New Zealanders<br />

and to assist with your finances while you study. Just remember your academic<br />

TuiTion fEEs – Your offer letter will include your tuition fee amount<br />

and instructions on how to complete payment. The tuition fees are inclusive of<br />

Immigration New<br />

Zealand<br />

As soon as you receive an offer of a place<br />

of study at WelTec you should apply for<br />

a student visa through the nearest New<br />

Zealand High commission, embassy,<br />

consulate, or Trade New Zealand office<br />

with Immigration New Zealand (INZ)<br />

facilities.<br />

Full details of immigration requirements,<br />

advice on rights to employment in New<br />

Zealand while studying, and reporting<br />

requirements are available from<br />

Immigration New Zealand, and can be<br />

viewed on their website at<br />

Student Visa<br />

Requirements<br />

To obtain a visa, you must have:<br />

� An offer of place;<br />

� A receipt for payment of your WelTec<br />

fees or a letter showing evidence of<br />

a scholarship;<br />

� evidence that you have sufficient funds<br />

to meet living expenses and return travel<br />

to your home country, or a notice of full<br />

scholarship that covers your living<br />

expenses.<br />

Student Visa Officer<br />

Once you are in New Zealand you<br />

can renew your student visa at WelTec<br />

with the Student Visa Officer. Please<br />

contact WelTec International to make an<br />

appointment.<br />

note: To comply with minimum academic<br />

standards and meet student visa<br />

requirements you must attend 100%<br />

of your classes at WelTec and show<br />

reasonable academic progress.<br />

employment<br />

Students studying on Diploma, Degree<br />

and Graduate Diploma programmes<br />

are generally permitted to work up to<br />

20 hours per week during term time and<br />

full-time (up to 40 hours per week) over the<br />

summer break. On successful completion<br />

of a 2-year diploma or degree level<br />

qualification students are eligible to apply<br />

for a 12-month graduate job search visa.<br />

Medical Requirements<br />

� If you intend to study in New Zealand<br />

for more than six months, you are<br />

required to provide a completed<br />

temporary x-ray certificate.<br />

� If you are intending to study longer<br />

certificate.<br />

note: If you intend to stay in<br />

New Zealand for longer than two years<br />

you will also need to complete a police<br />

certificate.<br />

� Your passport must not expire during<br />

your course of study in New Zealand.<br />

Insurance<br />

eligibility for Health<br />

Services<br />

Most international students are not entitled<br />

to publicly funded health services while<br />

in New Zealand. If you receive medical<br />

treatment during your visit, you may be<br />

liable for the full costs of that treatment.<br />

through the Ministry of Health, and can be<br />

Medical and Travel<br />

Insurance<br />

International students (including group<br />

students) must have appropriate and<br />

current medical and travel insurance while<br />

in New Zealand. WelTec has arranged<br />

insurance cover for all international<br />

students enrolled at WelTec. WelTec covers<br />

its students through comprehensive<br />

Travel Insurance and the insurance cost<br />

is included in your WelTec programme<br />

fee. Once paid you are covered for health,<br />

travel and personal effects from your<br />

journey to New Zealand to the last date of<br />

your programme plus one week. For more<br />

important note: If you intend to stay in<br />

New Zealand past the last date of your<br />

programme you must arrange for your own<br />

private insurance cover. You may be liable<br />

provides accident insurance for all New<br />

Zealand citizens, residents, and temporary<br />

visitors to New Zealand, but you may still<br />

be liable for all other medical and related<br />
