<strong>In</strong>formation: Our seniors group meets 10am fortnightly on a Thursday. Sessions start with<br />

devotion and activities include exercise classes, storytelling, quizzes, indoor bowls, cards,<br />

singing, social interaction and guest speakers. Lunch is provided. We also collect and<br />

<strong>In</strong>formation: This advisory council of Maori elders meet on the second Thursday of every<br />

month, to nurture and support each other. They do a variety of crafts (e.g. harakeke/flax<br />

weaving) and discuss Maori rongoa (natural remedies) and health initiatives. They also<br />

discuss political and other key issues relevant to Maori living and working in the wider<br />

<strong>Wellington</strong> region.<br />

<strong>In</strong>formation: The league’s prime objective may be summed up as follows: “To promote<br />

fellowship and understanding between Maori and European women and to cooperate with<br />

other women's organisations, Departments of State, and local bodies for the furtherance of<br />

these objects”. The league is also pledged to preserve, revive, and maintain the teaching<br />

of Maori arts and crafts and to perpetuate Maori culture. Its welfare work extends to giving<br />

aid to members and others in need. A conference is held annually at which Maori women<br />

are gaining confidence in expressing their views on all topics which affect their people,<br />

especially with regard to health and education.<br />
