CULTURAL AND ETHNIC SUPPORT<br />

<strong>Wellington</strong> <strong>City</strong> <strong>Council</strong> is committed to making the most of <strong>Wellington</strong>’s ethnic diversity.<br />

The <strong>Council</strong> has a number of programmes and projects designed to support and develop<br />

ethnic communities.<br />

Listed below are some of the ethnic support groups currently operating in <strong>Wellington</strong>. If<br />

your ethnic or cultural group of interest is not listed please call 499 4444 to enquire about<br />

Cultural Support Groups<br />

<strong>In</strong>formation: This women’s group meets for social interaction and enjoys outdoor<br />

activities, including picnics. Guest speakers on a variety of subjects also attend meetings.<br />

We meet on the first and third Saturdays of the month at 7pm. For more information call<br />

<strong>In</strong>formation: We are a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, senior migrant citizens’ society with 116<br />

members from 13 countries. The society is based in Lower Hutt, and our members are<br />

resident all over Greater <strong>Wellington</strong>. Our fortnightly meetings are on the first and third<br />

Sundays of every month, usually from 4.30pm to 6.30pm (wintertime 3.30pm), at the<br />

Waiwhetu Uniting Church Community Hall, No. 2 Trafalgar Street, Waiwhetu, Lower Hutt.<br />

<strong>Services</strong>: Activities include indoor games, English classes, cookery demonstrations,<br />

craft workshops, cultural workshops and day trips/tours to historic, heritage and scenic<br />

sites. We arrange visits to rest homes and hospitals to provide companionship and attend<br />

to the small needs of ailing migrant patients.<br />
