STORYTELLERS As summer blockbusters and hit television shows prove, today’s audiences are growing increasingly more demanding and more sophisticated. It is the role of the visual effects and motion graphics artist to help storytellers deliver bigger and bigger thrills to the world’s growing entertainment audience. The Visual Effects & Motion Graphics program offers students the opportunity to acquire skills in a new specialization that focuses on communication arts for film, television, and the Web. WHAT WILL I LEARN? An education in Visual Effects & Motion Graphics will teac students how to use digital compositing to create layered and textural landscapes that engage both the mind and the emotions. Students will have the opportunity to learn how to build a seamless presentation that is both visually arresting and commercially effective, through the integration of live action footage, 3D, graphic elements and sound. In addition, they will have the opportunity to become knowledgeable about the stages of the production process and learn what it means to be part of a creative team working to meet a goal. There will be opportunities to problem-solve through start-to-finish projects that test students’ conceptualization and execution skills. In the final quarters of the program, students will be able to choose an area of specialization, which targets their specific career goals. Each graduate will have a reel of their best work ready to show prospective employers. 38 VISUAL EFFECTS & MOTION GRAPHICS Bachelor of Science 12 Quarters PROGRAM MISSION The Bachelor of Science program in Visual Effects & Motion Graphics prepares graduates for entry-level positions in television, the film industry, special effects, corporate postproduction and other related fields by providing for a solid foundation in the principles of art, design, professional skills and technical knowledge essential for their success. Graduates will be prepared for entry-level positions in broadcast and cable television, film, videos, and DVD post-production industries. PROGRAM OBJECTIVES Conceptualize and design effective motion graphics within professional design parameters. Create engaging visual effects by implementing post-production techniques. Demonstrate technical application of compositing, audio, editing, and use of live-action plates to enhance visual communications. Demonstrate basic filmmaking principles in cinematography, animation and editing. GRADUATES ARE PREPARED The Bachelor of Science in Visual Effects & Motion Graphics program will prepare graduates to seek entry-level positions in broadcast and cable television, film, video, and DVD postproduction industries. The opportunities for graduates of this program exist due to the growing use of video and other animation on the Web. The length of the program is twelve (12), eleven (11) week quarters.
