DESIGN MANAGEMENT Bachelor of Science 12 Quarters WHAT IS DESIGN MANAGEMENT? Design is the cornerstone of all successful products and services. In an increasingly global and competitive marketplace, today’s businesses are seeking partners who can innovate and collaborate to help protect the considerable investment they have made in their brands, products, and services. They seek managers who are adept at sales, marketing, and business, and who can manage the planning and creative production processes, including people and products. WHAT WILL I LEARN? The Bachelor of Science in Design Management program offers enterprising students the opportunity to blend business and problem solving skills to help create an efficient and effective creative work environment. Design managers work with creative people, understand the creative process, and know how to manage projects, time, and money. As a result, design managers directly influence the bottom line and the success of the company. Within the organization, design managers can serve in roles ranging from support staff to key leadership members. Students in the Design Management program focus on one specialization area: Advertising, Media Arts and Animation, Graphic Design, Interior Design, Web Design & Interactive Media, Photography, or Visual Effects and Motion Graphics. The curriculum gives students a strong foundation in general education courses including Interpersonal Communication, Psychology, and Ethics; and business courses such as Technology and Productivity, Organizational Behavior, Managing Creativity and Innovation, Human Resource Management, and Financial Issues in Design. 16 PROGRAM MISSION The mission of the design management program is to prepare graduates for positions of innovation management by providing a strong foundation in design, branding, business management, entrepreneurship and communication. A key focus of the program is collaborative communication skills in dynamic, entrepreneurial environments. Graduates are prepared to grow their careers from entry-level positions to management positions as leadership is demonstrated. Graduating students will be prepared for entry-level positions in advertising agencies, design studios, and publishing houses PROGRAM OBJECTIVES Understand, encourage and inspire the creative process from concept to execution. Graduates will identify opportunities and execute innovative solutions to a variety of problems. Demonstrate proficiency in brand development and related business communication tools.
