KEY QUALIFICATIONS
I am a conservation consultant, conservation scientist and program manager with 18 years of professional experience.
Geographically my area of expertise is Indonesia, and to a lesser extent others parts of SE Asia. I am an experienced
consultant with a record of delivering high quality output within set time frames. My high scientific publication output
and ongoing research demonstrate my scientific skills. The books that I have written have become important
reference works for non-governmental organizations as well as academic institutions, and the Indonesian government
and private sector. This recognition is extended to the international conservation and research scene. I am a strategic
thinker who focuses on developing the big picture before narrowing down on how management and research can
address the associated issues. My strengths lie primarily on the interface between academic research and its
application in the field. I have worked for several timber, plantation and mining companies, as well as several
international donor projects and NGOs. Since 1999, I have published two books, 92 papers in international peer
reviewed journals, 9 book chapters, and a range of conference papers and newspaper articles; I have been the chief
editor of 3 science and conservation newsletters. Through my work in Indonesian conservation I am very comfortable
to work with people and organizations from different backgrounds, including government, NGOs, and private sector,
and I enjoy working in a multicultural environment, and building up local science capacity.
