WEEKEND MATCHUPS / TOP STORYLINES
MATCHUP: Point Park visits Alice Lloyd for a game Jan. 4 in Pippa Passes, Ky., and then travels
to Wilmore, Ky., for a game at Asbury on Jan. 5. Both games are in KIAC play.
THE SERIES: Point Park is 1-0 all-time vs. Alice Lloyd with a 118-83 home win Nov. 21. The Pioneers
are 0-1 all-time vs. Asbury with a 91-72 home loss on Dec. 17.
TOP STORYLINES: Point Park needs to cure its 0-4 road record, which includes 0-2 in KIAC
play. This weekend’s games begin a stretch of five road games in the next six games. Point Park
is back to .500 overall at 6-6 and at 2-4 in the KIAC has a chance to get back to .500 in league
play this weekend. The Pioneers had lost five games in a row before beating Brescia at home
Sunday. With the losing streak over and the record at 6-6, the Pioneers can build on that.
POINT PARK PIONEERS (6-6, 2-4 KIAC)
THE SKINNY: The Pioneers have been a streaky team this year as they opened the season winning
5 of 6 only to lose the next five in a row. Just as consistent as an offense that has regularly
been above 90 points is a defense that gives up just as many. The Pioneers hope to get just
enough points two win, even if its means giving up a lot as well.
85 POINTS TO WIN: A key number for the Pioneers is 85 points. Point Park is 0-4 when scoring
less than 85 points but 6-2 when getting 85 points or more. While the Pioneers have proved they
can lose even when scoring a lot of points of their own, more often then not, they win with 85+ pts.
KEY PLAYERS: Freshman F Matt Noszka has been the most consistent player at 14.3 ppg and
7.0 rpg. PG T.J. Heatherington is next at 13.4 ppg and leads the team with 5.2 apg. Gabe
McNeal, Jimmy Taylor and Asa Braxton are perimeter scorers also averaging double-digits.
KEY STATS: Point Park is 2nd in NAIA Division II in scoring at 92.2 ppg and 7th nationally with
9.3 made 3-pt FGs per game. PPU also gives up 91.8 ppg to rank near the bottom of NAIA DII.
NO. 9 SCORER: T.J. Heatherington now ranks 9th on Point Park’s all-time scoring list. With 1,324
career points, he recently passed Jim Ney (1,300). Next up is Damon Wade in 8th place at 1,451.
THE SKINNY: The Eagles are 7-7 overall and 1-1 KIAC. They haven’t played since beating Brescia,
in rebounding margin at +10.5. Despite the height, the Eagles still give up 44% field goals.
