Background<br />

• <strong>Polymyalgia</strong> rheumatica (PMR) is the most common<br />

inflammatory rheumatic disease of the elderly.<br />

• There is considerable uncertainty in classification of PMR.<br />

• Musculoskeletal ultrasound has become an important<br />

tool in clinical practice in rheumatology, and has<br />

demonstrated value across a range of rheumatic<br />

conditions.<br />

• The classification value of ultrasound in distinguishing<br />

PMR from other conditions mimicking PMR is unknown.<br />
