Education is the best provision

There are many different ways to
realise a better education for children. With
the donation of funds raised by the ticket sales
of our concerts, Cape Classic supports different
social projects in the Western Cape. We believe
that children are the future of each country
and therefore we concentrate on the education
of children. In funding worthy charitable
projects, the proper education of children is
Cape Classic’s highest priority.
For the last seven years, Cape Classic has supported
the Greater Stellenbosch Development
Trust in various ways. Cape Classic transfers a
monthly stop order to a private soup kitchen,
has built an extension building with toilets, provided
school fees for sixteen orphans in 2011,
bought sixty school uniforms and seconded the
initiative of the James Sounds Project Arising
out of this project, two pupils attracted such
special attention because of their extraordinary
talents, that Cape Classic took over the
payment of their study fees at Stellenbosch
University. Plans are still going ahead to build
a children’s crèche in Rondomskrik (Swellendam)
as there is no suitable facility available for this
purpose at present.
However, education does not always entail
only study. Education is also an experience.
Cape Classic endeavours to encourage local
communities to gain access to classical music,
as we sincerely believe that such music is not
only life-enhancing but valuable. The Cape
Classic workshops and its school concerts in
Khayamandi, provide pupils with an opportunity
to explore different issues in creative
ways. These opportunities offer a unique
experience of getting to know strange and unknown
instruments and of working together
with European masters of classical music. This
support for underprivileged children also has
a transformative effect on them, which will
surely have a lasting effect. We hope that our
music will open the door to magical moments
for all of them!
With all our benefit concerts of classical
chamber music, the special events in Khayamandi
and with our donations, Cape Classic
supports the development of an exploring,
enjoying and passionate new generation in
Western Cape.
