IAP-Monitoring
With the Air-Pouch System
The Air-Pouch System consists of a
hollow body connected to a pressure
transducer by tubing. The pressure
transducer, the electronic hardware,
and the device for filling the Air-Pouch
are integrated in the IAP-Monitor.
For intraabdominal pressure measurement
the Air-Pouch is placed in the
stomach of the patient. The intraabdominal
pressure is transmitted
across the thin pouch wall to the air
volume in the pouch and transformed
into an electric signal by the pressure
transducer.
On the digital display the mean pressure
and the amplitude of the pressure
wave are shown. At the monitor
output the pulsatile signal is available.
The IAP-Monitor can be connected to
all ICU bedside monitors through their
pressure transducer inputs.
A voltage output allows the connection
to chart recorders.
Through the RS 232 interface a computer
can be connected to read out
the pressure signal.
The IAP-Monitor zeroes automatically
once per hour. This automatic in-vivo
zeroing is a unique feature of the Air-
Pouch system.
The catheters themselves do not contain
electric or optic pressure transducers.
That is the reason why they are
very robust and not expensive.
Monitors
The Classic Choice with New Features
The ICP-Monitor uses the Air-Pouch
method for measuring intracranial
pressure and intraabdominal pressure.
It is compatible with the full range
of Air-Pouch probes, with the CPP-
Monitor and the Compliance-Monitor.
The digital display indicates mean
ICP or IAP, systolic and diastolic pressure.
Additionally a mains power
control light is visible.
Two connectors in the back of the
monitor take a connecting cable to a
bedside monitor or chart recorder
and a connecting cable to a CPP-Monitor,
a Compliance-Monitor or a
computer.
The stainless steel enclosure is resistant
to wear and tear and to influences
from the environment.
The ICP-Monitor with Batteries
This ICP-Monitor has all the features
of the classic choice. Additionally it is
equipped with recharcheable batteries
that allow more than three hours
of independent operation. It is compatible
with the full range of Air-
Pouch probes, with the CPP-Monitor
and the Compliance-Monitor.
The digital display indicates mean
ICP or IAP, systolic and diastolic pressure.
Additionally a charge control light
and a battery state indicator are
visible.
The IAP-Catheter
In the tip region the
IAP-Catheter is
equipped with the Air-
Pouch and with four
holes.
The IAP-Catheter is introduced like a
naso-gastric tube. It is equipped with
an air pouch at the tip. The catheter
has one lumen that connects the airpouch
with the IAP-Monitor and one
lumen that takes the guide wire for
introduction.
After removal of the guide wire the
second lumen can be used for
ascertaining the position by
auscultation. For this purpose the
second lumen is equipped with holes
in the tip region.
For the second lumen a Luer-Lock
connektor with cap is part of the
package.
For easy introduction the guide wire is
spiralized.
The IAP-Catheter is intended for single
use. It is supplied sterile.
TheLuer-Lock connektor
is intended to connect
to a syringe for
ascertaining the position
by auscultation.
The CPP-Monitor
The Versatile
Monitoring Abdominal Perfusion
Pressure
Abdominal Perfusion Pressure (APP)
is the difference of Arterial Blood
Pressure (ABP) and Intraabdominal
Pressure (IAP).
The intensive therapy should aim at
keeping the APP above 50 mmHg.
The physiological APP is about
80 mmHg.
... with the CPP-Monitor
The CPP-Monitor is originally intended
for monitoring of Intracranial
Pressure (ICP) and Cerebral Perfusion
Pressure (CPP). Just as well it measures
Arterial Blood Pressure and Intraabdominal
Pressure, calculates the
mean values, and shows them on the
digital display. Abdominal Perfusion
Pressure (APP) is calculated and also
shown on the digital display.
High and low alarm thresholds are
programmable for ABP, IAP, and APP.
With the built-in chart recorder Blood
Pressure, Intraabdominal Pressure,
and Perfusion Pressure can be recorded
continuously. They can be recorded
as momentary values or as
mean values.
Event recording allows automatic recording
whenever one or more of the
alarm thresholds are exceeded. Headers
and trailers are additionally recorded
in order to show the event
completely.
Besides the Spiegelberg: IAP-Monitor
all other types of IAP transducers can
be connected. All types of standard
pressure transducers can be used to
pick up Arterial Blood Pressure.
The pressure signals are available at
the outputs for graphic recorder and
patient monitor. Using the RS 232 C
interface the pressures can be fed
into a computer.
6
A memory card can be inserted on
the side of the CPP-Monitor. It can
store 24 hours of signal. The stored
pressures can be replayed on the recorder
at different speeds.
