mouth, feel <strong>the</strong> tremble of her f<strong>in</strong>gers aga<strong>in</strong>st his chest,<br />

and wondered if she could hear his heart hammer<strong>in</strong>g<br />

aga<strong>in</strong>st his ribs.<br />

That smart mouth of hers was surpris<strong>in</strong>gly soft,<br />

like apple blossoms, and she tasted like cola and<br />

spearm<strong>in</strong>t gum.<br />

He might have expected her to shove him off <strong>the</strong><br />

mount<strong>in</strong>g block or give him a judo chop to <strong>the</strong> head.<br />

When she didn’t, when her lips seemed to soften <strong>in</strong><br />

wel<strong>com</strong>e, he took that as enough encouragement to<br />

deepen <strong>the</strong> kiss.
