Dr. Mary Dickens Hicks (DVM ’88) was honored with an<br />

Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) Alumni<br />

Association award on March 3, <strong>2012</strong>, at the <strong>Georgia</strong><br />

Museum <strong>of</strong> Agriculture and Historic Village.<br />

Dr. Earl Gaughan (DVM ’81) has joined the Virginia-<br />

Maryland Regional College <strong>of</strong> Veterinary Medicine<br />

at Virginia Tech as a clinical pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> large animal<br />

surgery.<br />

Dr. Matthew Booth (DVM ’97) has been certified<br />

as a Diplomate by the American Board <strong>of</strong> Veterinary<br />

Practitioners specializing in Canine and Feline Practice.<br />

Dr. Booth practices at Alpenglow Veterinary Specialty +<br />

Emergency Center in Boulder, Colo.<br />

Dr. Timothy Montgomery (DVM ’83) was inducted into<br />

the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong>’s AGHON Honor Society on<br />

Nov. 6, 2011, for a lifetime <strong>of</strong> outstanding leadership.<br />

Dr. Joseph Gaydos (PhD ’01) was elected to chair the<br />

Dr. Walter Gregg (DVM<br />

2011 SCAV Veterinarian<br />

<strong>of</strong> the Year. Dr. Gregg, one <strong>of</strong> three ABVP canine and<br />

feline diplomates in South Carolina, owns Gregg Animal<br />

Hospital in Columbia, S.C.<br />

Dr. Erin Casey (DVM ’10) is a member <strong>of</strong> the inaugural<br />

class <strong>of</strong> the AVMA Future Leaders Program, which<br />

provides a one-year opportunity to help bolster leadership<br />

and problem-solving skills related to organized veterinary<br />

medicine.<br />

Dr. Dale Bjorling (MS ’82) was named associate dean<br />

for research and graduate training at the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />

Wisconsin School <strong>of</strong> Veterinary Medicine.<br />

Drs. Rebecca Babcock (DVM ’98) and Karen Donovan<br />

(DVM ’04) opened Red Barn Veterinary Hospital, a fully<br />

computerized veterinary hospital that focuses on quality<br />

medicine and surgery in Dahlonega, Ga.<br />

Dr. Amy Belew (DVM ’99) is Cobb County Animal<br />

Control’s first full-time veterinarian. The county<br />

commissioners approved the new position in February<br />

2011. The county is part <strong>of</strong> the greater Atlanta region.<br />

Dr. Jason Eisele (DVM ’02) purchased Specialists in<br />

Veterinary Surgery (SVS) in Estero, Fla. SVS is a small<br />

animal referral practice specializing in orthopedic,<br />

oncologic, neurologic and s<strong>of</strong>t tissue surgical care.<br />

Dr. Emily Hoppmann (DVM ’05) bought Elgin<br />

Veterinary Clinic in Elgin, S.C. She practices small animal<br />

and exotic animal medicine and surgery.<br />

Dr. Gary Baxter (MS ’88) is a Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Emeritus at<br />

Colorado State <strong>University</strong>, from which he retired in<br />

2011. He is now director <strong>of</strong> the<br />

<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong> Veterinary<br />

Teaching Hospital and a pr<strong>of</strong>essor<br />

in the department <strong>of</strong> large<br />

animal medicine. His wife, Dr.<br />

Margaret Baxter (DVM ’86), sold<br />

her practice, The Vets Animal<br />

Hospital, in Windsor, Colo.<br />

Dr. Robert M. Cobb, Jr. (DVM<br />

Baxter<br />

’81) was named <strong>Georgia</strong>’s state<br />

veterinarian by Commissioner <strong>of</strong> Agriculture Gary<br />

W. Black. The state veterinarian oversees the Animal<br />

Protection and Equine Health <strong>of</strong>fices.
