revolutionary shaftless winding system for stretch wrap film
The series 3000 winder feature a
revolutionary new design of a shaftless
winding machine particularly suited for
winding stretch wrap film. The winder
is suited for maximum roll diameters of
400 mm needed in the production of
3-inch jumbo rolls, but alternatively, it
is capable of producing 2-inch hand
stretch rolls. With a cycle time of less
than 30 seconds, 300 m short standard
rolls can also be produced at high
speed. As it does away with the need
for rewinding small rolls from a mother
roll, it constitutes a true boost in production
efficiency. Series 3000 winders
come in the following standard winding
widths: 4-up, 5-up, and 6-up.
Series 3000 winder is an inline slitter
without bleed trim cutting with revolving
turret, characterized by the shaftless
operation of the cores. Think of a
central turret with two winding stations,
one for the purpose of roll building, the
other for roll unloading and clamping of

turret has its corresponding auxiliary
contact roller, specifically responsible
for synchronizing startup cores to line
speed and driving finished rolls during
indexing. Additionally, the engaged station
is in contact with a central driven
contact roller stationary in the cutter
stand of the winder. To cut a long story
short: The winder is designed like a
conventional slitter with numerous
winding arms, however, arranged in a
turret. These arms are movable along
linear sliding profiles across a central
crossbeam and are adjusted according
to the required core width. The winding
arms are equipped with special chucking
devices permitting the arrangement
of six neighbouring part bobbins in one
single axis.
For the start of the line, one full-width
winding station with a winding shaft is
available. Thus, it is possible to feed
the web comfortably at full width. Once
the inline slitting process has been
started, cross-cutting is performed

with the stationary knife and the web is
transferred to winding station no. 1.
For a roll change, the turret is indexed
by 180 degrees between winding
station no. 1 and no. 2 in less than 1
second.
The winder is suitable for 3-inch and
2-inch production. The 3-inch chucking
plates have to be exchanged for 2-inch
heads. Such exchange is simple, since
air supply and electrical signals are
transferred by coupling plugs and only
the heads are changed instead of the
full arms.
It is important to mention that the
shaftless design with a relevant core
width of 500 mm eliminates problems
with the critical speed of winding
shafts, which limits conventional
shafted winders in their maximum line
speed and applicable width. That is
why this design lends itself for high line
speeds and is suitable also for wider
film widths.
