Peabody Coal Co. Extends Its Holdings.
The Peabody Coal Co. of Illinois has increased
its capital stock to $2,500,000 and has taken over
the assets and liabilities of the Southern Illinois
Coal Mining & Washing Co., the Marion District
Coal Association, the Brazil Coal Co., the Busse-
Reynolds Coal Co., the City Fuel Co., the Evanston
Elevator & Coal Co. and the Brignall Bros.
Coal Co. of Evanston. Since February 1 these
companies have been operated under the name of
the Peabody Coal Co. The, name of the Jobs Ohio
Hocking Coal Co. also has been changed to Peabody
Coal Co. No change has been made in the
personnel of the selling departments of these companies.
Colonist Tickets to the West and Southwest

in the West and Southwest Territory via Pennsylvania

The Anthracite Reserve.
The tidewater stocks of anthracite coal were
almost exactly the same at the end of 1904 as at
the close of 1903, a little more than 700,000 tons.
Interior stocks were no doubt heavier, but the
coal so held was reserved for contingencies. During
this year the interior stocks will no doubt be
further augmented, but they will in no way affect
the market as it is proposed to make these stocks
permanent.
Westmoreland Co. Absorbes Penn Gas Co.
The Westmoreland Coal Co. has absorbed the
Penn Gas Coal Co. The holding of the Penn company
aggregated 5,000 acres, which, added to those
of the Westmoreland company, part of which they
adjoin, gives that company a total of 20,000 acres.
The purchase price announced is $3,000,000, to
meet which the Westmoreland company will increase
its capital stock from $3,000,000 to $5,000,-
000, the full amount authorized by its charter, and
will issue $1,000,000 of bonds.
West Virginia's coal fields contain more coal
than all of Great Britain.
