As your companions venture down the rough passageway<br />
in front of you, you think for a moment that one of the lumps<br />
of lichen on the roof is moving. Just as you dismiss the<br />
thought, it drops from the ceiling, its six limbs and snapping<br />
beak flailing at your comrades.<br />
<strong>The</strong> druuge is a low-order predator of the Underdeep, a<br />
carnivorous beast that travels in packs. Though mammalian,<br />
it is a hexapod, meaning it has six limbs instead of the usual<br />
four found in mammals. It also has a sharp, hooked beak<br />
like a bird of prey, which it uses to rend its foes and its<br />
food. It has a long, stringy coat that assists the creature<br />
in hiding; when motionless with its legs tucked beneath it,<br />
the druuge can easily pass for a lichen-covered rock or a<br />
large bump in the ceiling. Most remarkably, the six legs<br />
of the druuge end in long, slender claws, which enable it to<br />
climb on rough walls and even ceilings almost as easily as<br />
it walks on the ground.<br />
Its primary association with the drow is not predator<br />
and prey, however. <strong>The</strong>se beasts are kept by the drow as<br />
livestock. <strong>The</strong> dark elves harvest the druuge for meat, milk<br />
and fur which can be woven into coarse fibres and hides.<br />
