Army Commander: Archmage Rannirak<br />
Rannirak’s statistics are given in the next chapter. He<br />
will not stand and fight, choosing instead to flee down<br />
to the Abyssal Altar.<br />
Determining Victory<br />
If the Player Characters’ forces manage to rout the<br />
drow, or the battle continues for ten rounds after the<br />
gates are breached without the Player Character forces<br />
being repulsed, then the Player Characters have turned<br />
the tide. <strong>The</strong> drow begin to retreat to the Darkspear.<br />
This does not end the battle, it merely moves it on to the<br />
next stage, in which the Player Characters must pursue<br />
the fleeing Archmage Rannirak underground.<br />
Rannirak’s Retreat: Whether the allied forces are<br />
winning or losing, Archmage Rannirak will retreat<br />
back into the Darkspear after the first five rounds. If<br />
the Player Characters do not see this happen, then a<br />
friendly soldier should inform them.<br />
Whether the battle goes well or badly for the allied<br />
forces, the Player Characters’ next target is beneath<br />
Crom Calamar, where Rannirak waits by the Abyssal<br />
Altar….<br />
Aftermath<br />
Whichever route they choose to get into the Darkspear,<br />
the Player Characters must achieve three objectives,<br />
directly or indirectly: destroy Scallandriax, shatter<br />
the tenebrium and drive the drow back down into the<br />
darkness. If the tenebrium is destroyed, the dragon<br />
killed and sufficient drow forces lost, the drow begin to<br />
retreat, moving back down the great spiral shaft towards<br />
their home.<br />
