6. <strong>The</strong> Tropical Garden<br />
As you enter this ice chamber you feel unexpected<br />
warmth in the air. <strong>The</strong>re is a strong light source in the<br />
ceiling which radiates heat like a small interior sun.<br />
<strong>The</strong>re is a smell of plant life, rich and earthy.<br />
<strong>The</strong> room is filled with plants growing from ceramic<br />
troughs laid along the room’s length. <strong>The</strong>re are roses,<br />
lilies, daffodils and even blackberries, completely out of<br />
place in this frigid realm.<br />
Bastirak has created a garden of plants in the middle<br />
of an ice palace. <strong>The</strong> warm air is kept confined to this<br />
room and does not melt the walls. <strong>The</strong> secret of the<br />
room is the light source, which is a magical sunlamp.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Gardens: <strong>The</strong> plant beds are each within the area<br />
of effect of a permanent alarm spell, shaped so as to<br />
sound an alarm if anything falls or stumbles into them.<br />
<strong>The</strong> alarm sounds in the ice devil barracks (Room 11)<br />
and brings the ice devils in that room running down to<br />
investigate.<br />
Guardians: <strong>The</strong>se laboriously cultivated plants cannot<br />
be left unsupervised or some denizen of the citadel might<br />
blunder into them. <strong>The</strong> ice devils are uncomfortable<br />
about spending time in this room as it is too hot for<br />
them, so Bastirak has assigned two barbed devils to<br />
watch over the garden. <strong>The</strong>y are bored, irritable and<br />
spoiling for a fight.<br />
