Accuracy Check Objectives This SOP is designed to ensure that dispensed prescriptions have been labelled and assembled accurately before being transferred to the customer. This SOP will: • Provide quality assurance in the dispensing process • Ensure that any labelling errors are identified • Ensure that any errors in product selection are identified • Ensure that the correct quantity has been dispensed • Ensure that the products supplied are not out of date • Ensure the ‘Checked By’ box is initialled to provide an audit trail Scope This SOP will cover all 2DRx NHS prescriptions. Responsibility Members of staff responsible for this process should be listed in the Record of Competence. Only those members of staff listed are to be considered competent to carry out this procedure. No other member of staff should be asked to carry out any part of this process. Review The SOP will be reviewed annually, when there are any changes to legislation affecting the process, or in the event of any change of staff, or any increase or decrease in the competence level of the staff. The SOP should also be reviewed following a critical incident. The responsibility for reviewing the SOP rests with the Pharmacy Manager (Pharmacist), or in their absence, the Pharmacist or Pharmacy Manager (non-Pharmacist). In the absence of these members of staff, the Area Manager will be responsible for review. If as a result of the review any changes to the SOP are deemed necessary, these must be approved by the Superintendent’s Department. For any changes to the SOP an application must be submitted, in writing, explaining in detail the changes deemed necessary and the reasoning behind these changes. The application should be sent by post to the Superintendent’s Department, at Sapphire Court.
