The CoMPaSS system can be used to check if the patient has had the medication before or if there are any changes to the patient’s medication. Legal guidance can be found in Medicines Ethics and Practice, A Guide for Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians. Remember that most computer systems do not alert you to dosage errors. Always check unusual doses in the BNF or other reference material. The pharmacist should check if the patient is taking any other medications, such as OTC products.
