Sicilian gall midge species are associated with 28 plant families (17.7% of<br />

Sicilian plant families) (Table 2); most of them are associated with host plant<br />

species of the family Rosaceae (11 species), Fagaceae (11 species), Fabaceae (9<br />

species), Oleaceae (7 species), Chenopo<strong>di</strong>aceae (6 species), Apiaceae (5<br />

species), Asteraceae (4 species), Brassicaceae, Rutaceae, Corylaceae, Vitaceae<br />

(3 species), Aceraceae, Ericaceae, Poaceae and Rubiaceae (2 species); each of<br />

the remaining 13 plant families hosts only one gall midge species.<br />
