The Gay Lea Foods Co-operative Limited was founded in Ontario in 1958 as United
Dairy and Poultry Co-operative Limited. The co-operative manufactures and markets
dairy products that are sold provincially and across Canada. The Co-operative’s
product line consists of butter, milk powder, yogurt, cottage cheese, sour cream,
dips, aerosol whips, creams, fluid milk and a variety of specialty and cheddar
cheeses.
The co-operative is owned by its 3,800 dairy farmer members who constitute twenty
percent of the province’s milk producers. It employs a staff of 425. The Financial
