Comments: My oldest know direct line Maternal ancestor was Mourning Grogan.
She and her husband, John Grogan, have a number of descendants. She was
supposedly born in SC about 1784 and died in Dawson County, Georgia about 1855.
Comments: My U5b1 mt haplotype is said by FTDNA to have originated among the
Saami ("Lapps") of northern Scandinavia. The earliest known ancestor in my
mother's unbroken female-to-female line was a woman who lived in the vicinity of
Baltimore MD in the 18th century. My working hypothesis -- subject to rejection if
contradictory data should appear -- is that our "maternal line" immigrant ancestor
was among the Swedish or Finnish settlers of 17th century Delaware (about 60 miles
from Baltimore).
