She was the first wife of a person who is listed as Adam Miller in my file, but was most likely Johann Adam Mueller back then. Anna Maria Barbara (Koger) Miller died in 1794 in Rockingham County, Virginia. Adam and his wife were the first permanent white settlers in the Shenandoah Valley. They passed through Pennsylvania on their way to Virginia. I am descended from their daughter Anna Barbara Miller who married Jacob Baer. According to the certificate, I am in Haplogroup H which is very prevalent in Europe, which fits with my knowledge of my ancestry. According to what I have heard elsewhere, my mutation at 16318T puts me into Haplogroup U7 (though ftDNA didn't indicate this in my results). Haplogroup U7 is found in the more easterly portion of Eurasia, like India, Iran, Iraq, and other parts of Asia, which yes, I do indeed find to be quite surprising as I have no known links to that part of the world. Perhaps this means that collectively my ancestors were not only some of the earliest immigrants to America (connections to both Jamestown and the Mayflower), but also some of the earliest immigrants to Europe from Asia, but this is just a guess... I really haven't looked into my other mutations very much, so I don't know what surprises they may hold for me. While I have always suspected some small ethnic variation in my mother's family, the reality is a surprise. This is an old Mormon family, most of them arriving in the early 1850's. We have an extensive genealogy with not a hint of Native American anywhere. The most likely candidate would be my great-great grandparents, I guess. My g-g grandmother was Margaret Ross, born in Scotland in 1840, married to Royal James Cutler, born in New York uin 1828 and of English descent. However, since my MtDNA is This is all so fascinating! The family was Polish but there was a story that the great great grandmother was of Asian extraction. This proves that it wasn't in the female line! This line traces back to an Eleanor Madaj b. 1830 in Poland. She married a Frenchman and I wondered if she were French as well (or Indian, Black, etc.) Her descendents moved to Montreal, Can; Kaskaskia, Ill; & St. Genevieve, MO--all French colonies. Eventually, her 3rd great granddaughter Marie Therese Marcelite Misse (my 4th g. grandmother) married an American of English extraction, Thomas Hopkins, and they moved to the Ozarks (Douglas and Howell Co., MO and Sharp Co., AR) where my ancestors have lived since then. I have learned that Marguerite was a European, not an Indian or an African.
