The second half saw Minehead needing
to defend far more than the first, with play
territorially becoming more even, but the blues
still managed to create serious chances. A Lee
Smyth centre evaded both Mike Mullen and Chris
Yeates by inches at the far post, and a superb
turn by Aaron Deeks inside the box created an
opening for Lee Smyth but his effort also went
just wide.
Making two substitutions in the 70 th
minute Minehead continued to take the game
to their hosts, with strikers Martyn Phillips and
Luke Freeman replacing Guy Burns and Chris
Yeates, and after Matt Crackenll had been hashly
booked for a trip,
the blues finally got
the break through
with 12 minutes
remaining when
Luke Freeman had
been fouled on the
edge of box and Lee
Smyth’s awkward
curling free kick
from an angle
evaded everybody
and crept in at the
far post.
