Identifying a range of Plants, Weeds,
Pests and Diseases and the Care and
Pruning of Plants
Friday 16 November 10.15am to 4pm
Tutor: Ray Broughton
This session will give you an understanding of how plants are
botanically named and will cover the identification of a range of
plants, seeds and weeds, plant health, the identification of common
pests, diseases, disorders and beneficial animals and insects.
The care and pruning of plants will include potting on your plants
and providing aftercare and understanding pruning principles
including the ‘3 Ds’, formative and maintenance pruning.

Soil testing and management of
green spaces
Thursday 29 November 10.15am to 4pm
Tutor: Ray Broughton
This session will look at collecting and preparing soil samples for
testing, analysing samples, pH testing, adjusting pH, identifying
nutrient deficiencies and taking appropriate remedial action.
Management of green spaces will cover landscaped areas and
ornamental gardens including carrying out site surveys, assessing
the management requirements of an area, producing management
and maintenance plans for an area, understanding biosecurity and
monitoring and maintaining health and safety.
