<strong>Us<strong>in</strong>g</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>VLE</strong> <strong>Pack</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>RM</strong> Learn<strong>in</strong>g <strong>Platform</strong> (<strong>formerly</strong> <strong>Kaleidos</strong>) (<strong>PC</strong>)<br />

It is not necessary to use <strong>the</strong> <strong>VLE</strong> <strong>Pack</strong>’s <strong>in</strong>terface when upload<strong>in</strong>g Content <strong>Pack</strong>s to <strong>RM</strong> Learn<strong>in</strong>g <strong>Platform</strong>.<br />

However, if you wish to browse <strong>the</strong> <strong>VLE</strong> <strong>Pack</strong> content menus prior to upload<strong>in</strong>g Content <strong>Pack</strong>s to <strong>RM</strong><br />

Learn<strong>in</strong>g <strong>Platform</strong>, you may f<strong>in</strong>d it helpful to access <strong>the</strong> product us<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> product’s <strong>in</strong>terface.<br />

1. To do this, first <strong>in</strong>sert <strong>the</strong> <strong>VLE</strong> <strong>Pack</strong> disk <strong>in</strong>to your computer’s DVD drive.<br />

2. The disk should launch automatically, present<strong>in</strong>g you with <strong>the</strong> Welcome screen from which you can<br />

access <strong>the</strong> content menus.<br />

To upload content from <strong>the</strong> <strong>VLE</strong> <strong>Pack</strong> to <strong>RM</strong> Learn<strong>in</strong>g <strong>Platform</strong>, see <strong>the</strong> steps on <strong>the</strong> follow<strong>in</strong>g pages.


Upload<strong>in</strong>g content to <strong>RM</strong> Learn<strong>in</strong>g <strong>Platform</strong><br />

1. From any of <strong>the</strong> <strong>RM</strong> Learn<strong>in</strong>g <strong>Platform</strong> <strong>VLE</strong> pages, select ‘Content <strong>Pack</strong>s’ from <strong>the</strong> drop down menu<br />

<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> top right hand corner.<br />

2. Click <strong>the</strong> ‘Upload a Content <strong>Pack</strong>’ icon.<br />

3. Browse for <strong>the</strong> ‘Smart ICT <strong>VLE</strong> <strong>Pack</strong>’.<br />

4. Open <strong>the</strong> SCO<strong>RM</strong> folder and select <strong>the</strong> required Content <strong>Pack</strong> to be uploaded.<br />

This is available as <strong>in</strong>dividual Lesson content or by Unit.<br />

5. Select <strong>the</strong> ZIP folder you want and <strong>the</strong>n ‘Open’. This will display <strong>the</strong> ‘Upload Content <strong>Pack</strong>’ page.<br />

Now select ‘Upload’.<br />

6. When uploaded, <strong>the</strong> Content <strong>Pack</strong> requires validation. Ano<strong>the</strong>r Content <strong>Pack</strong> can also be uploaded<br />

at this time. Large Content <strong>Pack</strong>s may take a while to upload, depend<strong>in</strong>g on speed of connection –<br />

so be patient!<br />

7. Return to <strong>the</strong> Content <strong>Pack</strong> screen above and click on <strong>the</strong> ‘Activate Content <strong>Pack</strong>s’ icon.<br />

8. Click on Accept Terms and Conditions.<br />

9. Select ‘I have read and accept <strong>the</strong> terms and conditions for this content pack’ and <strong>the</strong>n click<br />

‘Activate’. This imports <strong>the</strong> Content <strong>Pack</strong> and it is <strong>the</strong>n ready to use.<br />

Allocat<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> <strong>VLE</strong> <strong>Pack</strong> content to ‘courses’ with<strong>in</strong> <strong>RM</strong> Learn<strong>in</strong>g <strong>Platform</strong><br />

1. Open <strong>the</strong> course <strong>in</strong>to which you want to add files from <strong>the</strong> <strong>VLE</strong> <strong>Pack</strong>.<br />

Note: You could choose to set up a course for a whole year group, or for each Unit of work. If you have set<br />

up a course for a whole year group, <strong>the</strong>n you will need to add ei<strong>the</strong>r all <strong>the</strong> Unit packages or all <strong>the</strong><br />

Lesson packages to <strong>the</strong> course. If you have set up a course for each Unit, <strong>the</strong>n only <strong>the</strong> relevant Unit<br />

or Lesson packages need to be added to each course.<br />

2. Select <strong>the</strong> icon, which will allow you to search for items from <strong>the</strong> <strong>VLE</strong> <strong>Pack</strong>.<br />

3. In <strong>the</strong> ‘Search By…’ dropdown menu, select ‘Brows<strong>in</strong>g Content <strong>Pack</strong>s’.<br />

4. Double-click your establishment name.<br />

5. Double-click ‘Smart Learn<strong>in</strong>g’ to give access to <strong>the</strong> list of content <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>VLE</strong> <strong>Pack</strong>.<br />

6. Double-click <strong>the</strong> required unit to <strong>in</strong>clude it <strong>in</strong> your course.<br />

7. Double-click to open <strong>the</strong> ‘Smart Skills Builder ICT <strong>Pack</strong>’ folder.<br />

8. Select <strong>the</strong> resource you wish to <strong>in</strong>clude and click ‘Include <strong>in</strong> course’.<br />

Multiple selections can be made.<br />

9. To make it easier to add o<strong>the</strong>r files and content to <strong>in</strong>dividual tutorials to support learn<strong>in</strong>g, it is<br />

advisable to create folders for each tutorial with<strong>in</strong> a unit and add <strong>the</strong> <strong>VLE</strong> content to <strong>the</strong>se.<br />
