<strong>AI</strong>.<strong>COMM</strong> staff then held a fi eld epidemiology training workshop in Ug<strong>and</strong>a with the African<br />

Field Epidemiology Network (AFENET) that highlighted the importance of this applied<br />

communication skills training for fi eld epidemiologists.<br />

The project also had been working with AFENET to establish an Offi ce of Public Affairs<br />

for the network to have technical skills in public affairs <strong>and</strong> communication to better<br />

respond to emergencies or the day-to-day operations of AFENET. Based in Ug<strong>and</strong>a <strong>and</strong><br />

with representation in over nine countries throughout Africa, AFENET investigates outbreaks<br />

<strong>and</strong> responds to other emerging medical situations. All told, <strong>AI</strong>.<strong>COMM</strong> assisted AFENET with<br />

creating a communications framework/roadmap; <strong>and</strong> developing work plans <strong>and</strong> content for<br />

the local public affairs offi ce, key messages, media Q&A, <strong>and</strong> a press kit.<br />
