<strong>AI</strong>.<strong>COMM</strong> assisted the Government<br />

of Pakistan to design an integrated<br />

program by participating in a three-day<br />

Communication Planning Meeting in<br />

Islamabad to design activities to<br />

effectively prepare for <strong>and</strong> respond to<br />

<strong>AI</strong> outbreaks. <strong>AI</strong>.<strong>COMM</strong> presented<br />

fi ndings from its qualitative research<br />

among at-risk audiences to the 50<br />

attendees, which represented nearly<br />

every type of organization imaginable:<br />

the Livestock Departments of the federal<br />

<strong>and</strong> provincial governments, Ministry<br />

of Health, Ministry of Information,<br />

poultry research institutes, agricultural<br />

<strong>and</strong> livestock universities, the Pakistan<br />

Poultry Association, wet market <strong>and</strong><br />

slaughterers’ associations, poultry transporters’<br />

associations, communication<br />

professionals from international donor<br />

agencies, international NGOs, private<br />

<strong>and</strong> state-run television <strong>and</strong> radio<br />

channels, poets <strong>and</strong> journalists. After<br />

digesting the research fi ndings on the<br />

fi rst day of the event, the participants<br />

worked together on the following two<br />

days to develop the components of the<br />

National <strong>AI</strong> Communication Plan to<br />

address audiences such as poultry<br />

farmers, transporters, sanitary workers,<br />

domestic <strong>and</strong> institutional consumers,<br />

opinion leaders <strong>and</strong> various types<br />

of vendors involved in the poultry<br />

supply-chain. Message development<br />

exercises targeting these audiences were<br />

conducted on the third day with the<br />

guidance of creative briefs.<br />
