secrets concerning the transactions <strong>of</strong> the American money. Hess,<br />

being Hitler's deputy, had flown to Scotland in May 1941 to try to<br />

arrange a solution to negotiations about the gold standard and thus<br />

an agreement on the conditions for peace.<br />

Hess had blindly believed in the psychic General Karl Haush<strong>of</strong>er's<br />

dream that the trip would be a success. But the dream was not<br />

realized and Hess was arrested.<br />

After his parachuting over Scotland on 10 May 1941, several astro-<br />

logers, whom he had protected, were arrested. <strong>The</strong>y were seen as<br />

accessories to Hess' misjudgement.<br />

In 1946, Hess was sentenced to life imprisonment in Nuremberg.<br />

While in Spandau prison in Berlin, he wrote his memoirs. When he<br />

had filled three books, they were removed and burned. He started<br />

again, and the same process was repeated. <strong>The</strong> victors did not want<br />

the truth disclosed. Hess died in Spandau prison at the age <strong>of</strong> 93, on<br />

17 August 1987, under mysterious circumstances. He was far too<br />

weak to have taken his own life.<br />

Close Collaboration between Nazis and Zionists<br />

Moses Hess coined the term national socialism, commonly shortened<br />

to nazism, which he intended to use for Jewish nationalism - and<br />

this as early as 1862. <strong>The</strong> connection between Zionism and German<br />

nazism thus already existed from the beginning and would later on<br />

be developed further, both ideologically and politically.<br />

Documents found by he German historian Klaus Polkehn, reveal an<br />

extensive co-operation between the leading Nazis and Zionist leaders.<br />

This information was published by the Israeli Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Israel Shahak<br />

in the Israeli newspaper Zo Haderekh on 2 September 1981. <strong>The</strong> Nazis<br />

and the Zionists had a common interest to frighten European Jews to<br />

emigrate to Palestine. <strong>The</strong> leading Zionist organizations in this close<br />

co-operation were Lohamei Harut Israel (later infamously known as<br />

the Stern Gang) and Irgun Zvai Leumi. Among the leaders were also<br />
